Hi, I have just joined, having recently purchased my 210 Estate 300TD. I have replaced the 16'' steel wheels, and plastic hubcaps with 18'' 7 spoke Incenio Menket alloys from a CLS, (8.5Jx18et28 and 9.5Jx18et33) fitted with 245/40/18 tyres on the front, and 275/35/18 on the rears, which improve the look of the car to no end, however the front tyres are rubbing the arches where the edges of the arches at the top, are less ''rolled'' towards the back of the arch, whenever the front end slightly ''plows'' over any dips. This edge is quite sharp, and consequently there are lines being cut into the top edge of the tyre wall. The front suspension is clattery over small pot holes, and the car is booked in to have the ARB links changed, will this solve the problem, as the rubbing seems to only be millimeters, but I cringe every time I hear the noise, and the thought of the tyres being cut to ribbons is annoying to say the least. The rear has no issues at all, probably thanks to the self levelling suspension. Any helpful information, will be gratefully received.

My 210 has 18s fitted and the inner lips of the front archs are rolled upwards only approx 10 to 2 oclock position wise.

No rubbing issues ever.

Quick google reveal my fronts are 18x8 et31 and rears 18x9 et35

I reckon you have the wrong offset

The CLS wheels are 8.5 with a ET28 fronts. The normal alloy wheels on S210 are 7.5 with a ET43. So you are moving the outer edge of the rim out by 12 + 15mm (half extra rim width plus ET change). That's 27mm and well over an inch!
The S211 will take this, but the S210 designed for smaller tyres will obviously not! :dk:
Tyres rubbing on bodywork is a big no, no and very dangerous and I'm not suprised you cringe:eek:
If the wheels are staying you must mod the bodywork!

Hi Thanks very much for your helpful response. I'm not sure that I should start messing around with the bodywork, so will probably be putting the wheels back on ebay, from where they came, and will keep my eyes peeled for some suitable alternatives, ie with the correct offset. I will admit to ignorance of this issue of offsets, but at least I have learned something. Thanks again.

Thanks for this, and the helpful diagram explaining where I have gone wrong, I will be putting the wheels back on Ebay, and source ones with the correct offset. Many Thanks for the information.

I realize this is an old thread, so FYI re S210 wheels and tyres...

The correct wide alloy wheels are 8J/9J staggered: 8Jx18 H2 et31 and rears 9Jx18 H2 et35 as stated above e.g. the factory-fit AMG 'mono' alloys.

The widest front tyre that will fit the Avantgarde with sports chassis (low) and widened (fully rolled) wheel arches is the 235/40ZR18.

Standard rear fitment is 265/35ZR18.

N.B. a 245/40ZR18 rubs the front arches in a dangerous manner - it can 'pull' the steering at high speed over road undulations, beside nerfing the tyre.
I found out the hard way £££ :-(

Brabus 210 fitments are more aggressive:
18x8.5ET25 2354018
18x9.5ET25 2653518
As Mactech said, if you like the wheels then make them fit! Arch Enemy

Did you purchase the special RAD bolts?

Change the front tyres to 235 and the tyre should not touch the bodywork

Those are wider wheels than the OEM AMG 8J/9J set but with less offset to compensate: 1/4-in further out and 6mm back in. Do note they are the same tyres. So they will fit, but a wider wheel will give less bulge to the sidewall and be less comfortable, not that lo-pro are comfortable anyway. A 245/40ZR18 still won't fit up the front arch of the S210 even if it is fully rolled over like mine are, have have to steer, which means they have to protrude from the wheel arch at some point. They look fine in a straight line but don't hit a hollow at 60 or try driving around a car park.

Getting the offset right is critical, but the fronts also have an inner clearance and have to contend with steering.

It is not just an offset problem: a 245/40ZR18 will not fit inside the front end of a S210.

Been there, done that. Not a cheap experiment. A 245 is the same width whether it is on an 8J or 8.5J, and the tyre must clear the wheel arch when turning.

The 8½J wheel rim is ½-in wider than an 8J so it is ¼-in further out than an 8J but the smaller et25 offset is 6mm inboard of the 8J's et31 so the centreline of the tyre is back in the same place as before (within 0.35mm), and the tyre is the same 235 width...
So a 235/40ZR18 on an 8½Jx18et25
Will fit the same as 235/40ZR18 on an 8Jx18et31
Same track and clearance then

Get the offset right and a 8½J will fit, but a too wide tyre 245/40ZR18 will to my certain knowledge, not (on the front of S210 Av/Sports with OEM widened arches anyway).

The OEM wheel sets on all models of W210/S210 are
195/65R15 6½Jx15et37
205/65R15 7Jx15et37
215/55R16 7½Jx16et41
235/45R17 8Jx17et37
235/40R18 8Jx18et31
Only the AMG 'staggered' set gets a different rear :-
265/35R18 9Jx18et35

I suppose you could use a smaller offset of et20 with the 245/40R18 + 8½Jx18 to get the tyre in but then you might get fouling problems on the inside of the wheel.
