Hi Guys, I’m replacing my 19” AMG wheels on my C63 AMG with a set of 20” wheels does anyone know if this will cause any issues with the traction control or ABS system?, this may seem a silly question to ask but I’m not mechanically minded at all any info greatly appreciated, and if anyone is interested I will be selling my 19” AMG wheels complete with Bridgestone Potenza front tyres and Goodyear eagle F1 rear tyres.

19"s are already quite massive for a C-Class, are you sure that you want to go with 20's...

You might look like this:

how much for the AMG's? 20" are fine the question is, what are they? if you adapt the tyre sizing it will be fine.

are 20" AMG wheels available?

sounds too big, and will probably compromise handling and ride.

i read somewere that its all to do wih the "Rolling Radius" so i assume if your going up an inch in rim size then the profile of the new tyre will be lower.

I may be wrong but thats my understanding.

When you change you must keep the radius the same. This would describe a tyre with next to no side wall...it would be like running on solid tyres. Don't do it...you will wreck the ride and handling. Do Formula 1 cars have ultra low profile tyres...no...for a reason.

isn't his car? See people into modifying car or changing them would say yes change, others who like standard would say noo keep it original. If we all had the same cars wouldnt it be boring?

You're trying to say 19"s on a W204 C-class are "standard"? :D

If he had 15's and wanted to go for 17's, that would make sense, but if AMG fitted C63 with 18's as standard and provided extra wheel size, i.e. 19", as a maximum, that means it's the best not to go bigger.

Modifying is good, but less is more ;)

It's all about compromise. Yes you need to keep the rolling radius the same and you can easily check what the correct RR is for your car.

What you may lose is comfort and cash. Once you start getting into 30 profile tyres discarded fag ends start to feel like tree trunks when you go over them. Pot holes invariably lead to a visit to the wheel re-furb shop or even worse the brand new wheel shop.

I had 24" Hammanns on my 4.6is X5. They looked stunning but were wallet breakers.

I bet it will look stunning.

I'll have the 19s off you.

Once you get enough posts to advertise them and receive PMs. I can even collect as you are near to me!

I didnt say they were standard... what you think maybe a modifcation may to others be a down grade. It depends what you want. I know from experience that going up and inch doesnt really cause any problems, Im running 30 profile on the back of mine at the moment and its fine. I personally think you should try it for yourself. If you like the look of the wheel then do it. I do think 19" is agood size for the W204 but its only an inch! I do agree with Bruce, its costly to run big tyres but still worth it! I really dont see peoples problems with big wheels on here. ive had 17" with run flats on that are harder than 19" with low profiles.

I'm not one to shy away from big wheels on cars, but mine have been there to improve the grip and handling, the looks are a secondary consideration. Have a look at the 21" rims on my S Class here.

I would have resevations about 20" on the C63. The rear tyre size would have to go to 265/25/20 to keep the overall diameter sensible and that would mean that the gap between rim and road would be very small. Much smaller than the 285/30/21 on the S Class.
If you add to that the fact that I can only find one producer of such a tyre, that they are £300+ each and rarer than hens teeth, I would shy away!
We all know that the rim size is directly proportional to it's magnetic atraction to kerbs, but in this case any surface rougher than a billiard table may well have expensive consequences.

I am sure the wheels will look stunning but the liquorice strip of rubber that goes round them wont offer much comfort. However that is your choice and I hope your are happy once you have them on.

As long as the rolling radius is the same for the larger wheel and tyre as the current 19" inch set up then all should be okay regarding ABS and traction control.

Try this tool to see what rubber you would need to maintain the correct radius.

I have now seen the wheels I want and will be placing my order in the next couple of days, I’ve been quoted 3 weeks delivery so once the new wheels arrive I will be advertising my 19” AMG wheels on eBay if anyone is interested in buying them.
