190e 2.5-16 kangarooing!

Fuming vents

Towing a car with an automatic gearbox can damage it. It depends on the box and how far and how fast it is towed. Did your transmission problems start immediately after that? smoke and fumes from the dash vents normally indicates some sort of wiring fault causing wiring to melt due to localised heat.Could be from anywhere behind the dash and may /may not be related to your other problems. You obviously havn't found a GOOD vehicle electrician yet!

OK, so i have been around the houses with this one:

From Suki at Prestige saying i need a top end rebuild, etc etc...replacing ignition leads, fuel pumps etc...
To Tony Montalbano at TM Motors saying i need a new gearbox...
To Llyod at Oliver Engineering replacing vacuum pipe after vacuum pipe, rotor arm, dizzy cap etc etc...
To Merparts in Glasgow saying i need a new fuel pump relay, ignition coil, ignition pack...

To say the very least i have tried everyone, all with a different answer...
Some just trying to rip me off...Like Tony charging me £125 for 2 mins of fiddling...Keep away from this place...

In the end i thought to hell with it, im going to start doing all the little things myself...So i was changing the spark plugs as part of my routine service and thought...why not try to increase the gap to 0.9mm...So i did...and WOW!!! what a difference, the car is now flying like a rocket with no kangarooing!!!

Im well chuffed...and seriously disillusioned with all the so called experts that i have been to...

Just thought i'd share the end to this very frustrating problem... :bannana:

i think i deserve a few more!!! :bannana: :bannana:

well done Zakh.:)

I have had the same problem on a car years ago after a garage didn't gap the plugs.

I'm sure plugs was mentioned quite early on in this thread by Brian.

Now you know why some of us do our own work to these cars. If you look after them they will run well into an old age and you will save a packet on repair costs.

I don't know any of these guys but have spoken to the Mazzoni (sp?) Bros at Merparts in Glasgow for a couple of 16v questions.

One of these brothers is the http://www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/ Specialist for 16v Cosworth cars & has an Evo so I'd tend to think he knows what he's on about.
