190E Advice Needed

Norman, my brother is selling his 190E.. its black, auto.. not too sure of other details but if you are interested let me know and ill find out... Its a nice clean car..

Yes please Jay
To be honest though to save you time I am after late low mileage I don't mind paying for a good one I do not have a price in mind

My suggestion would be to buy on condition not mileage - low mileage might not be such a good thing on a 15+ year old 190E.

140-150k is not a worry so long as it has been serviced at a reputable (midlands based?) garage...:D

lol, its not my car so cant be sure, but last time i drove it, it felt fantastic... I know it rund beautifully... when i drove it.. reminded me of how MB engineering extended all the way down the range in the 80's...

not like today..

Good advice guys but good advice from nullogic QUOTE:
I would say don't rush. There are low mileage examples out there at reasonable prices and they pop up on Ebay and Autotrader from time to time. I almost made the mistake of rushing when I couldn't find a 190LE, then one day THE car appeared and I knew it was the right one.
I am very fussy with my cars my W202 that I am going to sell has had all the oils changed,Auxiliary belt,Auxiliary damper arm, coolant change, rear springs replaced and 2000 miles ago had a full service with brake disc change with pads plus all the things that needed doing,so when I buy a car if I am paying a good price I expect the same if I get it from ebay or somewhere else makes no difference.
Look at Swiss Toni car what a beauty I don't mind waiting for something like that I am in no hurry,as I said thanks to everybody for there useful comments which we always get from this forum.
I feel very fortunate to have found it the help is second to none.

Not to sure about the colour what do you think

Its that funny purple colour isn't it?!

Quentin Willson ran a 190E in the same shade as a long term test (don't remember which magazine he was writing for).

Condition over mileage (88k or 160k less important than that it has been serviced properly). £1k probably a good price - if you need to put new shocks on a 60k mile car sold for £700, then would it be a better deal than a 140k mile car with everything "on the button"?

The colour is not to my choice.

Have to agree as they say if there is something you are not happy with don't buy.

I will keep looking (yours is the sort of colour I would go for)

I think that's a smart looking car. Colour is pretty good - I'd rather that than some of the other ones that you see.

To be honest - condition over mileage - to an extent.

Definately rather a 60k car needing new shocks than a 140k one. Shocks are cheap and easy to fit :D ;)

But I know what ST is trying to say :)

At £1k if that Bornite one is as clean as it looks, I'd say that it would be a good buy.

I think probably the most important thing to check for would be rust - that'll cost more to sort than any mechanical repair.

Nice looking car Swiss.
Has the front end been resprayed.?

Oddly, yes - I had the front wings done when there was a bubble under one arch.

I say oddly because it was after the picture was taken and I am not aware of them having been done before (I know it looks as if there is a change in shade, but it never looked that way to the naked eye?!).

Maybe the bubble on the arch was a result of a minor repair in the past - hence why it bubbled in the first place?

Or someone may have had a front end paint for stone chips / scrapes in the past?

It does look as though it's had paint in that photo - not really surprising for any 15 year old car I guess.

That's why I bought a paint gauge.
The level of sheen is different which makes me think it's had the lacquer done.

I like that colour, its unusual but it suits the 190 body shape very well. With such a slow market I think your offer of £1000 is bang-on and a fair one at that.

Like I mentioned earlier its essential to check out those jacking points and the boot wells for rust. I've seen a couple of 190s that looked very clean on the body...then looked underneath

Also have a look at the pistonheads website, I've found that some nice ones have pop up there more frequently than on EBay and Autotrader.

I won't be buying the ebay one I asked for details of paper work and tools and the reply was QUOTE:
As i said in listing some mots receipts for work done i have added picture of jack i have taken out spare wheel to show you hope this helps
cheers.

So what he is saying is no service history,no tools except the jack,no handbooks,no triangle so I don't think it has had careful owners.
Looking at the pictures there is also damage to the grill which he has not mentioned

The lack of paperwork, the low mileage, and the high number of previous owners gives me a slightly uneasy feeling about this car. To me it just doesn't add up right...and leaves a lot of question marks about the car's past.
