The other morning my 190e started jolting when I tried to accelerate in a traffic jam. Pulled into a bus stop, restarted and no problem for the rest of the day. It also happened at 45mph a few weeks ago.

The engine didn't actually cut off either time.

I'm thinking fuel pump relay?

Really need to get this fixed, thanks for any thoughts.

FPR is either on or off, doesn't really have a 'sort of working' position.

Check the OVP relay & fuse. When was he fuel filter last changed?

Could be a Dry Solder Joint, In FPR; :thumb:

Thanks... it felt like something was interfering/cutting back the fuel supply so it couldn't accelerate. I'm not getting any usual OVP symptoms (ABS light etc).

Throttle microswitch also a possibility?

Might just change them both.

fuel pump relay

I had this happen to me in a 190e 2.6,where it would cut out while you were trying to overtake.I bought a new fuel pump relay and found that the previous owner had fitted a 4cyl relay in place of 6cylinder,and car ran fine ever since,I would still check that relay first even though it will probably be the correct one fitted in your car, they are prone to becoming faulty

Fitted a new FPR a few weeks ago but it did it again in a traffic jam yesterday so its not that. Switched it off and on again, no problem for the rest of the drive.

Basically something stops the car from accelerating but doesn't actually switch off the engine.

Throttle switch? I'm not getting any OVP symptoms.

The problem is very intermittent, the car has been used on a 100m round drive every day for the last few weeks- no problem until yesterday. I'm worried it will do it out of the blue at a nasty junction :(

Cheers for any help!

Sounds more like a partial HT/ IGNITION breakdown problem. Does the problem occur if the car has sat around for a few days?

Thanks, the car has been in very regular use and hasn't had a day off for a few weeks. I though the new FPR fixed it.

The leads/cap/rotor arm/plugs were changed about 6 months back with BERU parts. I think I will remove and refit it all just in case.

Annoying thing is, I will have trouble knowing if I have fixed the problem because it will probably be weeks until it happens again!

Hello Horatio - did you ever get to the bottom of this?
I've joined the forum just to ask you this question (GreekTaxi from 190 forum) - I've had the same symptoms for some time on my 1.8. Revs drop to a lumpy idle, won't rev up, sometimes it's cleared by putting it in neutral and flooring the throttle, or switching off and on again.
It only happens now and again.

I would just stick a new fuel pump relay in, but they're £176 plus VAT from MB...

Now I've joined the forum I'll take a look around. It looks massive... why have I not joined before now I'm wondering!

What is the part # on your FPR?

Wow that’s going back! It was just the ignition coil in the end!

The eurocarparts FPR broke last year so I bought a secondhand replacement from a user on this forum.

Hello Neil - relay number is 003 545 19 05, plus these codes: [00] KR0003 KPR, 05 3702 00. I believe what MB now sells is 003 545 20 05.
I asked an auto electrician to look at it for dry joints, but he said 'nah, no point, get a new one, they're cheap'.
But not cheap enough for me to buy on a punt if the issue lies elsewhere.
Horatio - so it was an ignition issue for you. I'll do a bit more digging then.

Thanks both of you.

I've got some 20 05s removed from working cars. They were tested before removal. I can't PM you so if you are interested in getting one put up a phone # or email address.
