guys i have found a really nice example which ticks all of the boxes but unfortunately its missing its history booklet(it has all of the other crap like manuals etc).
not sure if i want to touch it now as come resale time will be a nightmare:wallbash:
has anyone ever contacted m-benz for getting a duplicate book stamped?
thanks:thumb:

Surely condition is paramount. It may be possible to contact previous keepers and see if they have it.

There might not be many stamps at the main dealers anyway. Depends how much they want off you for it and how much you want for it on resale.

Here is one which has been at a garage near me for far too long. It needs buying and running.

Yes general condition I totally agree but I'm just wary/picky/fussy and just not sure whether to go for it?its a 2.3 16 v so has most likely had some activity in its life?? 6 owners 114 k on the clock looks to be cosmetically great and mechanically sound with lots of receipts to prove,
I really shouldn't be too fussy it's 26 years old? Am I being stupid??
Help!! :)

^ No just fussy. Get it bought and enjoy the thunder.

cheers john you sound like all of my mates they all say just get it bought, ive had one before and absolutely loved every minute of it.they are one of my favourite merc's, its not a massive jaunt so im going to take my money and have a look which means ill probably be driving it home :0
maybe if i phone the dealers in the morning they may be able to check for me.

Where's it advertised - do you have a link?

I can probably tell you more about the car and it's condition from a few photos and description than the service book would tell you.

How many owners?

Rust & body condiiton are the biggest issues these days.

PM me if you like :)

Will

cheers will its enthusiast owned(a guy from the 190e forum) and really does tick all the boxes, ive had one of these before and yes rust is a killer
6 owners,114k on the clock tax and test, ill pm you the link cheers

The dealers won't be able to provide any service history prior to 2003. MBUK changed their computer system around that time and all the old records are archived. I've tried and had the same response from several dealerships when trying to trace a service history. You could try DVLA. For a fiver they will provide a list of all owners from new. You may have some luck contacting previous owners and asking them about the work they did to the car during their ownership.

Unless you are paying a real premium, I wouldn't be too concerned about a 'booklet'. At the age of car you are talking about, I'd be more concerned about general condition; you should be able to get a good feel as to the way it has been looked after by doing some basic checks.

I would always prefer receipts to any service booklet, there have been far too many examples of 'fully stamped' service records produced by 'errant' garage rubber stamps to be of much use after this many years. Partly, I suspect, why dealers no longer issue books.
