1969 Maserati - scam or real?

That car, if genuine, is worth 6 to 8 times the asking price, seller has zero feedback and the description is finished in 3 short sentences.

Keep your hands in your pocket.

That Ghibli has always held its price, many do not have power steering and are impossible to park in town. I had one back in the 70's

I suspect those photos actually belong to a car trader. If you'd owned a car since '95, I doubt you'd have a paper tag on the keys (see dash photo). No doubt the tag has the reg number written on it, as car traders tend to do.

This is a scammer using someone elses photos, no doubt about it.

100% scam

asked a question and got the usual "I'm selling because I need the money, I'm out of the country etc etc etc"

Pity.

Looking for a 190 SL and keeping coming across scam adverts. Its actually getting a bit daft if you plan on buying from a private seller.

Is the deal from a private deal a thing of the past i wonder as the internet levels the playing field on demand v supply and what is worth what. And the private ads seem to be scams.

Ho hum.

I live near Edinburgh and sent the seller a query, asking where and when would be a good time to view. Here is the answer I got:

"I am selling this car for £3,500.00 including delivery anywhere in UK.I set at a "very, very low" price to guarantee a sale. The only reason is that I need cash for a family emergency. I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up/view isn't an option. If you want to buy this vehicle email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure trough eBay. They will send you a notification with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection and refund policy so please provide your details before more questions. You will find 90% of answers in that notification from eBay!"

I don't really fancy handing out my details, to a total stranger, simply in order to get some basic information. I imagine a lot of people would smell a scam here.

If it was a genuine car, then I know of three people in Edinburgh alone who would give him £20k cash for it immediately.

The engine rebuild he mentions would have cost £10k - 15k alone...

I paid £5600 for a detached house in Watford in 65 this may have been nearer 69-70 but I had that car when I was in Watford. A new SL was £7200 back then, I believe that this head was made of magnesium

So does that makes an SL worth 300 big ones these days!! Oh and by the way the young Indian dentist has got shot of his AMG 55 and is now driving a Range Rover Sport and a BMW coupe.

Thank you for that, I hope that he is happy with them. I hope that we meet up again somewhere

It would seem the listing has been removed so it was a scam after all, surprise surprise!!

Just in case anyone still harboured doubts that this sale was genuine and even half contemplated going for it, please note that the same car is also for sale here:

I like the bit where he says that it has the necessary power steering, I kid you not, driving one without is near impossible.

I used to think that they were a timeless design, but the way things have gone I am not so sure now, they do have simple electrics in their favour
