1988 300SE, 10,000 miles

The fact is the blue one IS worth £8400 because that's what someone paid for it. You don't get it, that's fine, we're all different

well we do agree on this, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

and i wouldnt have paid that, but like you say we are all different.

Id rather go for this:

CLASSIC MERCEDES 300 SE/SEL/SEC/S AUTO ONE LADY OWNER 47,000 MILES FSH SUPERB | eBay

Better spec, more sensible miles (You wouldnt think twice about adding more on the clock), 92 on a J.... Lower price... And from a nice (and expensive) part of the world....

yep i like that, nice clean example with nice spec, and i like the classic blue with cream leather combo, looks ten times better than the blue with the blue velour

No A/C on that J reg one .Cream leather - default (and boring for me)
Can't be too many female owners of a S class - 5% i guess
:)

didnt spot the lack of A/C but not that sure that would bother me.

as for blue and cream leather being boring, i think you have to look at this car in another 10-15 years from now. i think the colours will stand up well over time

lets face it, leather has been popular forever, velour came and went without most people noticing

IMO

Nice! Has has anyone spotted the colour coded (bodged) bumper chromes on both the front & rears?

Obviously suffering from the usual rust issue, but at that price I'd expect them to be in decent nick.

In Europe, leather does seem to have been popular for a long time. In other parts of the world its the velour that is much more sought after.

Velour apparently makes these S classes a bit harder to sell. Unless its to someone who particularly wants it - some people like it much more.

That last blue J reg 300 certainly looks really nice, lovely bodywork. No a/c happened quite often in those days since the cars were built to spec. I guess it wasnt as hot back then! I have a 420SE parts car that had some nice options but no a/c.
Looks like grey leather on that 300, though, slightly hard to be sure from the pics.

Can't beat MBTex - well, actually, you can, along with scratch it, wet it, dirty it, squeeze it, nip it, press it, scuff it, let your dog jump all over it, stain it, walk on it, jump on it, do unmentionable things on it, etc, etc

Ooh count me out.. Any BL product from that era for me is a big no no. Had quite a few of these as a cheap fun big engined blatter in previous years. All cost about £200 though.
I drive a 4.2 Daimler for weddings quite regularly and the nasty plasticky switchgear is always so noticeable. Also a proper slug in comparism to my 4.2 MB 126.

Having said that, the one noted is in really nice condition.

Jaguar were separated from BL / Austin Rover in 1984 and quality improved considerably under the stewardship of Sir John Egan. The interior ambience of any 1970's to mid-1980's XJ saloon will beat that of a W116 or W126 hands down. General build quality is another matter of course !
