Having replaced my broken speedo with a 'known-good' donor today, I'm still left with exactly the same problem - a speedo which doesn't work and which dances all over the gauge.
With great difficulty I managed to remove the binnacle, insert the new speedo and replace it in the dash with the steering wheel in situ. However, so tight is the squeeze to put back in, I've caused a tiny bit of damage to the soft plastic dash top, whilst pushing the clips on the back of the binnacle past it.
As the replacement speedo hasn't solved my car's problem, I'd like to return the original (with the correct mileage) but I don't want to cause any further damage, so I want to remove the steering wheel, to ease insertion!
Please can someone advise, how best to remove the steering wheel? My car is a '93 and it's wheel is fitted with an airbag. Whilst working on the dash today, I disconnected the battery, which I would obviously do again tomorrow, before working on the wheel. Question is, how do I remove the horn pad (front cover)? It doesn't seem to want to pull off, and then is it a case of getting the airbag pack out of the way and then undoing a securing bolt?
I would really appreciate some guidance, as I don't want to cause any further damage to any trim!
Lastly, seeing as the speedo head itself doesn't seem to be to blame, and two experts have both concluded that the sensor it takes it's reading from is good, what else can be causing my speedo problem? :fail
Cheers!
