1995 S600 w140

I will eat the panoramic roof off my car if those bids are genuine

Er..... Has anyone else seen what the bids are up to?
Is this right?

All bidders on ebay are now anonymous to everyone except the seller who can see the bidder's ebay ID. If you look at most auctions bidders will be identified as "Bidder 1" or "Bidder 2" & so on.

If you click on "Bidder 1" it'll give you some info on that bidder, including a rough indication of the number of feedbacks they've received & there fb score as a %, how long they've been on ebay & a 30 day Bidding Summary, such as the one chosen at random & copied below.

30-Day Summary

The ONLY reason to have a private listing where NOTHING about the bidders is revealed to anyone other than the seller is, IMHO, to stop one from checking previous bid activity with that seller.

In other words, to hide shill bidding.

Good spot, the key stat there is that out of a total of 49 bids, they had 49 retractions!, looks like a shill bidder used to flush out the highest bid from the real bidders. I've experienced this twice before when bidding on an FTO ( yes, the shame) and an XJ12. I mailed the sellers in no uncertain terms what I thought of their little scam.

The best one I ever had was with a BMW 840 coupe.

Me: "So everything is working?"
Seller: "Yes"
Me: "Including the tilt and slide on the sunroof" - this plays up
Seller: "No, I had the sunroof disabled. That is why it is not listed as having a sunroof in the ad. So I count it as not having a sunroof".
Me: "Err....they come with them as standard. So yours has it but not working?"
Seller: "I already told you - I do not consider my car to have a sunroof"

I kid you not!

What!!! Thats outrageous, what planet was his brain on?

Its a little concerning that this car has not had a service for FIVE years or roughly 5000 miles between 2003 - 2008. Then at the top of the ad he says its had two previous owners (in the summary box), but then at the bottom it lists the owners - I make it four according to his blurb. Where did he get two previous owners from?

1) Registered by Lancaster Bow as a chauffeur vehicle. Sold to...
2) A Chauffeur company in Brighton. Who sold to
3) A Mr Bostock, who sold it to
4) Mr M Sweeney who wanted to start a wedding car co.

When there is so much flowery guff in an ad I'm naturally suspicious as I makes me think they have something to hide.

This 19 year old W140 S600 is now bid up to £5,600 with nearly 6 days to go. The sky is apparently the limit with this guy.

A bargain at that price...not. You will think that they would at least make the scam more believeable.

I see the white S280 poverty spec (cloth interior, steel wheels) that sold for £2500 yesterday is now at a dealers on Autotrader for £4995.

What are they smoking?

These people are all insane. Maybe I should make mine £9,989 and put in the advert 'But I'll sell for £4k today only!' maybe people will think they are getting a £10k car for £4k then.

Its a cunning plan, and in fact, it might just work :).

BTW, have you listed your car on Ebay yet? what bits have you done to it since you got it?

People? What people? Likely one person - the seller

I haven't put it on eBay yet, I listed it on a trade only website and got a decent bid from a dealer in West London. Going to take it to him tonight but I don't 100% trust him as I've had dealings with him before and he's a bit of a waster.

If he turns it down or tries to chip me for it, it will be going on eBay.

I got a comedy email from Pistonheads offering to swap for an 2003 730D that has more finance on it than Zimbabwe.

Current bid:£6,050.00
Reserve not met

From Q&A:
"The reserve that I have set for this vehicle is a figure that I know the vehicle is easily re-saleable at."

£6,050 and reserve is still not met! He must suffer with something.

When I see this sort of thing, it makes me wonder wether this sort of seller actually makes a living by talking the car up and waiting for that one buyer out there who is not price sensitive/aware who takes it off his hands. Maybe hes onto something...

That auction is complete and utter rubbish. What ticks me off is exactly that - some poor sod will come along and go "Wow! A V12 for £X" and get the red mist and try and buy it for some stupid price. Then watch his/her remaining funds get swallowed up when 15 year old parts fail....or they find things that Shakespeare here forget to mention in his diatribe.

It is into what a W220 V12 can be had for and, build quality aside, it will be a car 5 years younger.

I also would not trust this seller if he told me what day it is.

Clown.

The bidding has finished at £6,450.

One born every minute!

Rendered me speechless for once!! :wallbash:
