Mercedes Benz C250 Estate
Hello All.

I have just acquired a 1998 C250 Elegance Estate, I have not had a MB before and it is a very nice car, a bit heavier than what I am used to, but it looks like a good family car. I have ended up with this car but know very little about it, I have no service history and am finding my way around the switches and dials by trial and error.

So, its an auto diesel with 5 cylinders and it has a turbo. I have driven the car a few times and it is apparent that the turbo is completely dead, the car is sluggish and will rarely get over 3000 revs, 50mph is the top speed when climbing a hill. The other problem is inside the car, unless I am getting the heating controls wrong, and i don't think i am, the heating is stuck on, the blowers on the windscreen are always blowing hot, as are the two vents next to the doors. Then central vents do blow cold air though.

Also, there is a large pipe that runs on the left of the engine, not from the air filter though, its dark but I think it is coming from the radiator, it goes behind the engine and down. This pipe is loose and blowing as it is missing a clamp.

So my question is, can anyone give me and idea of the kind of money it would take to fix these problems, how much is a turbo etc. Could it be that the main turbo unit is not the issue? The engine has done about 130000ish miles so I am guessing it has a long way to go if looked after?

Also, if anyone knows of any online reference for some of the switches that would be great, such as the different cruise control settings on the stalk?

Thanks :)

Hi heater will be due valve under bonnet next to brake servo.pipe sounds like intercooler pipe reconnect and hopefully turbo will work .stalk lift up for cruise to set .

unlikely turbo is dead - as above, reconnect pipe with a clamp.

might, no, will need resetting with 'star' computer system (genuine merc) or equivalent at an independent merc specialist. cost variable but dont expect change from 50 quid.
