Hi all im after abit of advise with regards to my heater blower i have a 99 clk320 sport coupe with climate control the problem is that the blower has stopped working all the display lights up as it should and when u switch the blower on the revs drop like it should b working its done it before but after a month it started working again but now its given up the ghost i think and with the mornings getting colder i could use it any info welcome and thanks in advance :thumb:

Hi,
Sounds like its the blower motor brushes are shot, you can only buy a complete blower motor from MB but I believe you can buy replacement brushes off of e-bay, Don,t forget to clean the commutator up when you replace them. For info the blower motor is fitted on the passenger side of the dash behind the lower dash panel. Might be an idea to replace the pollen filter at the same time as its in the same location and is cheap to do.

how hard is it to change the brushes in a heater blower unit and how much of a job is it to actually get it out anybody ??????????

agree it could be brushes, but fan speed regulator can also go,have you noticed fan speed increasing without touching speed control? it's the unit attached to the fan.To remove fan
remove passenger lower panel, pull off connector to fan(in recess of oblong black plastic cover) slide white plastic clips on one edge back and remove cover. with torx bit driver sorry not sure of size remove screws from fan housing,4 I think, fan and regulator will come out, you can access brushes quite easily after you remove it from the housing.

its just stopped working full stop now but i never noticed it increasing on its own before

i think its possibly working on the lowest speed as u can feel it coming out the vents but it doesnt go up in speed anymore if u press the increase speed button

brushes and or regulator then.

Just done the brushes on mine, similar problem in that it just stopped working.
Got the brushes on ebay for a fiver. Took me about 1/2 an hour to do the job.
You need a soldering iron to unsolder the old brushes and solder in new ones. Easy to do, cured it the old brushes were about 8mm long where as new ones were 20+mm long.
