1st weekend of ownership - - - Hell!

Update.......................A very helpful Mobilife Tech guys has been and assessed the car and sent for a recovery truck as he has decided that it looks (and tasts) like transmission fluid. So I waitied for the truck to whisk her off to Merc in Epsom for their verdict and remedy.

The Guys down there (thanks to Service Manager Simon) took a look whilst I waited and after an hour they diagnosed that the ABC fluid pipe had split and that had had a knock on effect to diagnostic warning codes that had shut down the gearbox. Some other part needs changing but I cant remember what they said (blame stress lol). Hopefully parts will be in tmrw and all back on the road on Wednesday. Now the painful bit.....but hopefuly not for me.....estimated total cost is £900!

The main man at the selling dealer is away til wednesday and I told his sidekick that I had told them to go ahead with the work and for them to call the MB dealer to arrange payment.

Im sure this isnt over yet though.

Once again guys thanks for your valuable input.

It's your dealer's problem not yours, but you'll have to hope it's just a one-off problem. But an odd one for such a young low-miler. Might be worth asking how come the ABC fluid pipe split in the first place.
At least the internal diagnostics minimised the consequences of the breakage.

When you're next down at the MB dealer ask for a quote for Service Plus as it may be of interest to you. Monthly payments, covers all your servicing and a MB warranty for the car.

Not sure that was a wise thing -- they may have their own mechanics etc who would do this job using MB parts but with cheaper labour...hope I'm wrong

This is an odd fault, the only pipe for the ABC that goes under the gearbox is the pipe to the opposite front wheel, along with the return flow pipe.

Do let me have the VIN, I sent you a PM

Further developements.......................Merc Epsom have been very helpful and replaced the ABC pipe (they took me under the car and showed me and you are right it is the pipe below the gear box and its wrapped in silver stuff with liquid pouring from it). However, it transpires that the faults wouldnt clear and nor would the car change up on test drive. They have now pin pointed it down to a failed auto pump IN the gearbox. So that needs to come out the car and stripped and be replaced. & 7 hours work plus parts! Thats an additional estimated £1200!

I havent sanctioned this work as the total cost is now looking like £2000-£2500 and thats down to the dealer to pay and I wont risk spending their money without them agreeing to it. They have given me a verbal commitment to sort anything and everything out but thats not the same as actually writing a cheque.

So everything is on hold until the owner of the dealers come back from holiday tomorrow. Let battle commence lol

You should not mention ABC fluid here, for I am not a happy man having 2 struts go within 20k miles

Without wanting to pinch the thread, why have your struts failed?
Normally hydraulic ram failure is due to dirty fluid.

They are leaking fluid, just always wet underneath, the level does not go down as yet, it failed the MOT with MB but I got it passed elsewhere, it is the tales of if one collapses. All 4 are isolated from each other so a total collapse would not happen, maybe they will just stay the way they are.

This is going on in BlackC55 meet thread

Back to the car in the thread, there is no connection what soever between the ABC and the gearbox in terms of limp home mode
