2 MAP OR NOT 2 MAP...........

sounds great and nice place to drive around . Hope you get used to it. what is the suspension like , is it quite stiff or quite soft. i always find having my dampers in the stiffer settings makes a huge difference to the quality of slides.

I was in peak district mid June and it rained more heavily than I could have thought possible . a lack of visibility and some narrow roads ruined the experience somewhat , and no longer being used to 700nm to the rear tyres. After a few gentle wheel spins, I am ashamed to admit I actually drove in comfort mode. While im still not used to the car like I used to be , I went for a "spin" today and couldn't get over how much fun having much more power than grip is. Alas, it was dry outside , and my tyres are looking more compact...Hope you're enjoying the lack of grip !

I usually keep the gears and suspension in comfort. But when things get more interesting, like the Via Gellia or Long Hill (to name just 2) I'll put the suspension in Sport 2 and the box in Sport or Manual. My objective is to get drive not slide.;)

A little damp this morning. Traction control light was working overtime coming off slow roundabouts in second

I had that problem after I had the CL55 Mapped. Had a Quaife LSD fitted, which solved that problem + the car also felt so much planted, best mod I did to the car :D

I had it this before the map and absolutely nothing changed post map.
Only thing that seems to improve it, short term, is if the battery has ever been off, but it comes back again after a few miles are out in. I’ve spent hundreds of pounds trying to get to the bottom of it with three separate specialists telling me ‘they all do that sir’, which I still don’t buy lol it just doesn’t feel ‘right’....

I would be interested to know if the op had experience of the shudder/jolt before/after the map and if it was there did it improve. I have that on my E55k and thought it was my acceleration pattern more than anything else. Is it common and is there any cure other than a remap

Agreed, big improvement with the quaife

I just had to scratch my itch so took my stock 06 CLS55 to Mallory Performance (previously known as SpeedMinistry) for a remap this morning. I'd be interested in your opinions.

Pre-map BHP (corrected to DIN 70020) 447.7 Mapped BHP (ditto) 493.7

Pre-map Torque 530.2 lb/ft (718.6Nm) Mapped Torque 568.4 lb/ft (770.1Nm)

Max Speed Pre-map limited to 155mph/250kph. Max Speed on dyno derestricted 182.6mph / 294kph in 4th.

Phil mapped the car via the OBD port without physically touching the ECU. He wouldn't put it in 5th gear as he didn't want to run over 200mph.

The important thing is how the car feels after the remap. Struth, it's strong. So drivable. Instant throttle response from nowhere even with the box in Comfort. In Sport it's sensational. 80mph cruising is so relaxed. It'll happily drive at 1000rpm in 5th. Only driven 50 miles since so I'll have to adjust to it.

Looking forward to the German road trip in 4 weeks.
Hi mate, how many miles had your CLS55 done when you had It remapped? Mines done 116K. I just had mine remapped. I got 478bhp and 589 lbft torque.

Really does need a s/c pulley change to get the best results. A map on its own doesn't achieve much on an M113K.
When you finally get hold of Acid, get the car in for an 83/77mm clutched pulley and remap it again. You should be seeing 540+ and lots more torque.

My previous E55 went on MSL's dyno back in 2014 and produced almost stock figures as expected. 479bhp/700nm at the crank. Acid uses 18% loss in his calculations IIRC.

I had the 77mm pulley fitted recently, and MSL done the map and got 519bhp from my e55. Still not bad, but its the low down engagement and the change to the exhaust note. Definitely made it worth it, just have to deal with a belt shredding issue at the moment.

Before the map, I only got 421bhp and 510lbft at the crank, so the map for me at least has made a big difference

Something had to be amiss to produce such low figures before your remap. AMG's almost always reach the published stock figures or more on a dyno run.
I assume it has fairly new plugs and a good intercooler pump?

Are you 100% positive those aren't the figures at the wheel before adjustment?
Adding 18% to those figures would give you 496bhp and 601ft lbs?

Yes mate 100% sure it's crank figs. The car has been idling badly. It can sometimes take 5-6 attempts to get it started properly. Could it be the coil pack that's faulty and causing the low bhp??

Yes, quite possible if its only running on 7 or less cylinders you'll be losing power.
Something is certainly amiss if it is hard to start and idling badly. Coil pack, maybe fouled up plug.
Needs a Star session and Acid to take a look.
You'll be a happy chappy when its sorted properly.
