The silver one.
Wifes car is doing just over 3k at 80mph just curious as to what other peoples c320 PETROL did i mention PETROL versions are doing.
I thought it seemed a bit busy sounding its defo in 5th.

Have a look in the manual and look for a figure in fifth gear, like 23.6 mph/1000rpm.

You can use this to calculate how many rpm the engine should be spinning at any true road speed in fifth gear.

at 80 my C230K is sitting at just under 3k, maybe exactly 3k actually.

Thanks for the replies much appreciated.

My 430 does exactly 2.5 k at 80 hence the reason for the question.

I just thought it semed to be to high an rpm for 3.2 litre engine.

V8's always seem like they're not trying (or so i've noticed). Must be the diff ratios accounting for their power and torque delivery characteristics

80 in mine is 2.5k too :) ( hypothetically speaking , because 80mph is illegal as we all know ;) )

Lucky we're talking about "indicated" speeds rather than calibrated speeds eh? :)

My only petrol vehicle does 5k rpm at 80mph. It's only got 2 cylinders and will double that speed just a few seconds later....where legal:D
The big silver car fuelled from satan's own black pump is just beyond tickover at 80mph.....1900rpm with the big wheels on.:thumb:

Wow 1900 thats pretty impressive.

Our C320 also does 3k RPM at an indicated 80. I'm sure my Dads petrol powered S320 revs lower than that at the same indicated speed. Like you I also thought it looked odd.

Mine does 80 in top gear at about 2300rpm. and thats a w211 E500 Avant.

Hi,

My e320 2800rpm @ 80mph
e430 2400rpm @ 80mph
