2004 C220 CDI Not Starting after storing for six months

Over charging will be failed regulator? If it's like W124 the reg is in the brush pack on the back of the alternator. It's rated at 14.4V on mine fwiw

Got the parts today fitted them and great news! First - Replaced the Front SAM Unit and nothing happened.. Second - Replaced rear SAM and central locking started working but she wouldnt fire. Third - Replace ECU KEYS ETC...and off she went... she started as if nothing happened. SMILE on my face :p. took vehicle out for a long drive to make sure everything is ok.. gear changing OK. No smoke... GREAT! :thumb: BUT ON THE WAY BACK HOME! Huge warning sign in centre dash saying: BATTERY > ALTERNATOR FAULT > VISIT WORKSHOP! :fail I've tested the charging rate and it's at 15.4 Volts when running! regardless of acceleration rate is 15.3V to 15.4V hardly any variation. Is that too high? I just dont get it...???? She is charging ok! but why am i getting that warning on the dash? Please help!
my personal experience working on cars s Max charging rate should be 14.5v... Sounds suspiciously like a diff voltage regulator which normally makes up part of the alternator unit in lost cars. Would not like to say for sure though that's just an educated guess!

Anything over 14.5 volts is overcharging and this will be the voltage reg - usually a black box on the back of the alternator.
Might just be worth testing the accuracy of the voltmeter - put it across the battery of another running car and see what it reads.

sorry for my appalling spelling in the above post.. Was typing off my iPhone so might not have made much sense.

Anyway fully agreed duff voltage regulator. Should not be more than 14.5v. Would avoid using the car again until this is replaced to avoid a loom shorting or a relay blowing somewhere!

Out of interest , don't the newer cars have an OVP relay ?

Hello again and thanks for the support.

I just wanted to give you an update on my situation.

Ok...

1. Checked the wiring from car Battery > via starter motor > to alternator(all OK).

2. Checked all bolts (all tight).

3. Checked serpentine belt. (all ok)

4. Used a different Voltage tester that I borrowed from a friend and the reading was at 14.2V when in idle and 14.4 V @ 2500 rpm. (the tester used was a snap-on tool YA2624.

Does it mean that my alternator is ok...? If thats the case, why am i getting that sign on the dash? BATTERY > ALTERNATOR FAULT > VISIT WORKSHOP!

Ok. So all you have done looks to be good.

You may have to get the car on STAR to see if you can get the error cleared. Or why it is throwing that code. It may be a throw back to a previous issue.
