Not sure where to go next in this diagnostic journey and hoping one of you kind folks will have some advice.
Got an old clk 320 with some weirdness.
Symptoms:
- Have an ESP dashboard warning (ESP disabled, visit workshop!).
- Secondary fuel fan has issues (runs on when engine stopped, only way to stop it is pull the fuse).
- Horn has intermittent issues (mostly doesn't work, have tried replacing one horn, no change) but can hear the relay click when horn pressed.
Investigation done:
- Steering wheel wasn't sitting straight after getting suspension fixed so had it aligned and tried to reset ESp by turning full lock left right - still got the warning.
- Plugged into star system and got:
9000 - control unit N80 (Steering column module) is defective.
C1172 - N49 steering angle sensor - internal fault
Other notes (that may or may not be relevant..)
Most of the fuses for these all are in the engine bay/drivers side box.
There is water ingress in the rear of the car near the back fuse box.
Had a driver display warning to replace side light bulb (bulb was also not working).. but it started working again after a week..
I was (via a mix of ignorance and googling ofc!) thinking that this points to front sam module, but would that give those fault codes? Would the steering column module resolve the fuel fan issue? Or am I looking at two or more different issues here?
Not sure what to do next and feel it might be time to part company with the ol' 320
