200 CLK
Hi all

Just after another bit of quick info if you dont mind. Still not found spec and price of the 200 clk but have seen a 2005 240 clk that might be perfect.

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a big difference in the two?
Im guessing that the 240 engine was dropped in 06? was it a good engine?

Looking at the mpg's the 200 overall brings in around 32mpg and the 240 28mpg are those figures accurate ish? As I do want something Im not feeding with petrol every time I go for a 10mile drive

Many thanks all

The 240 was the least loved engine in the CLK. Its is not much quicker than the 200k but drinks a lot more fuel in everyday use especially around town. The 320 drank much the same as the 240 but had much more go. Have a look at this weeks autoexpress. There is an article on buying used CLKs. According to this the 240 should cost less to buy than a 200 precisely for this reason.

I would have the 240 engine over ANY kompressor engine 4 pot. So much more reliable and ultra smooth.

All I can say is that our 200K is over 8 years old. So far no mechanical issues other than routine maintenance. The 200K seems very refined for a 4 cylinder but then I drive very gently. Each to their own I guess. In the real world 200k does 33-34 in general use, around 40 on long motorway runs. The later ones are said to be more economical than our version.

Most of my driving now is 10mile trips so maybe I just need to stick to the 200 clk
But yes looking at prices an 04 or 05 240 clk is £500 - £1,500 cheaper than a 200 clk

You can buy an awful lot of fuel for that sort of price difference. Certainly makes a 240 more attractive. Might be more difficult to sell on in future though.

To be honest,if the op is looking at an 04/05 car now by the time he comes to sell it the value of either car shouldn't be much(if any) different & given the mileage he does i would go for the v6.

I guess I will drive a maximum of 8,000 miles a year and keep the car for 4 years so a total of 32,000 miles. I wonder what the price difference in petrol would be between the two cars. All be it most of the miles will be local shortish stuff. I would have thought more than the money difference.
All be it also a few people have said the 04/06 pre 184bhp 200 clk's are a little gutless
Id imagine the servicing costs would be pretty much the same for the 4 & 6 cylinder engines

You would most likely get about 5mpg more from the 200k over the v6,servicing(especially if done by a specialist/independant garage)will be very simular.

Servicing pretty much the same apart from a couple of plugs every 40k or so. My rough calculations would suggest extra fuel per annum at around £450 over 8000 miles.

I do think this site is great, you guys give some great feedback. Many thanks!
