2007 CL600 £11,750. One owner. 172k

Engine aside though, what’s the worst possible bill that could throw up? £5k?

Sometimes you need a few brave pills and just go for it with cars like these. Worst case you’ll still get something for it even with say a faulty gearbox or engine etc.

Someone will want it at some point as the price keeps falling :)

Why is everyone so against it? I kind of want it now! :D

I like it, BUT any CL600 could be a money pit, and a 172k one more so than others.

And it's not just about the engine and transmission... I for one would have fixed absolutely everything and anything that went wrong, and on a car like this this can end-up costing more than its asking price.

I am not against it as such, just saying that given my OCD nature, I would start with a car that has the odds stacked-up in its favour to minimise the chance of expensive repairs; and this isn't it.

I know what you mean, I end up spending thousands on my cars to get them to how I want them. :(

The theoretical mpg on these seems pessimistic to me. We get 20 on our 65 and push on with it where possible.

Agreed. It's the glories of the Government's combined mpg calculation which has little connection to real life use. I've definitely seen better than quoted performance out of the half dozen Merc V8's I've had over the last couple of decades.

The more I look at this bloody thing, the more I fancy a low mileage CL600.

Given the low cost of a decent CL600, if bought in full knowledge of the possible issues and with money set aside for repairs, I think it could be a great buy. A similar aged Rolls or Bentley would cost a heap more, cost more to run and probably be less reliable as well as more painful to repair.

Buy it, run it to it's death and part it out to get some money back - job done :D

What with Electric vehicles and Hybrid being more and more available i think that car would be one of the quickest ways to lose 11k in 1-2yrs unless you want to bet on horses or even own a horse that is lol

You’re absolutely right!

Anyone want to sell me their immaculate low mileage cl600 now, at a really cheap price, before the bottom falls out of the market...?

I think it is going the opposite way. Low mileage V8 and V12 entering the market are not sticking around for long. Been a trend for a while now. I sold my CL55 for the same money I paid for it 3 years prior. I won't be selling my S600 for less than it cost me either. Because when everything is electric and you want an old school twin turbocharged V12 rumble, I've got just the one ;-)

The way I see it, even if you threw the £10k away for two years motoring that’s a hell of a lot less than these cars lost in depreciation when they were much newer.

People would have groaned at this sort of car when it was nearing 100k miles, but here it still with us at 175k now :)

It’s a gamble, versus certain depreciation on a newer more expensive one - which can still go wrong anyway!

If it was a £20/30k car then you’d obviously have to fix it regardless. At £9k you can take your chances, worst case stick it on eBay for spares/repairs - you’d still get a good chunk back I reckon :D

I can sell you an immaculate low mileage cl65 at a really expensive price ;)

I refer you to Merc85 who is convinced that petrol engined cars are going to be worthless in a couple of years time.

Two grand and a catering pack of Pringles?

(Or are you and I agreed that maybe things won't go that way?)

Depends on what flavour of pringles we are dealing with ?

I've been told to lay off the Pringles so the deal's definitely off.

The E53 AMG Coupe would be the only car I would replace my 63 with :)
