I have had my 2007 E320 CDI about a month now & the only fault I have found so far is the fuel gauge. It shows empty & reserve light on but only takes 40Ltrs to fill it, ( it has an 80ltr tank) the gauge then only shows half full. I was suspecting the tank sender but doing a search throws up other problems like gauges needing calibrated & it has a saddle type tank that straddles the prop shaft so needing a pump to pump from one side to the other.
So my questions are;
How do you re-calibrate the fuel gauge if its possible on a 211.
If its looking like a sender fault & I believe it has two are they accessible without removing the tank?.
Does the computer calculate when there is a difference between the two levels then switch on the pump till the levels in both sides are the same.
I am assuming the right side float or sensor is working, if the tank is filled from the right side. Because filling the tank does lift the gauge to half. Maybe the sender on the left is telling the system its empty when really its full, so indicating half a tank?
If I am wrong in any of my assumptions & talking rubbish could anyone explain how the system works please.
Thanks in advance
