2009 clk broken front coil spring

Price from the dealers shouldn't be expensive, get them to quote when you ask tomorrow. Could save a lot of hassle, plus you get 2yrs warranty...

Just an update, I rang the dealership and they couldn’t/wouldn’t give me a part number. They also could not quote me using the VIN . They said they could only use whatever colour code is on the springs in the vehicle even though I explained that I had no guarantee that the existing springs were correct or original.
Upshot is they want £70 per spring and a 100 mile round trip to collect what may or not be the correct part.

You actually need the data card for your vehicle to get the correct springs. The dealer could get the data card from the VIN, probably can't be bothered to do it.

Let me guess, the data card isn’t available to the owner of the vehicle?

Absolute rubbish, using your vin is the only way to get the information you need, i would try phoning another dealership, say you have some springs on your car at present with 3 red dots, and need to know if they are the correct ones and whilst they are at it can you get a quote for new springs. Use a bit of bullcrappery if you need to.

I have emailed Mercedes explaining my dilemma and informing them of my experience with their Portadown parts department . It’s quite obvious they don’t want anyone doing their own work on their precious cars. It’s almost as if you buy the car but Mercedes still owns it!
(Mini rant over)

Where exactly on the datacard will it show which springs to use?

If the Datacard is the same as the vin decoder it doesn’t,

The data card works on a points system. When the car was built all the options and equipment that the car was built with have three digit codes. These numbers are added up and springs are selected from the total.

The data card will not tell you which springs are fitted to your car, but it will tell you if it has sports suspension ie AMG Sport line

I've had this with my dealer. No part numbers. Even for parts that may or may not be available from them due to the age of the car. It's bullshit. Never had this with any other manufacturer.

OP, try Europa Cars in Sheffield. They're an authorised MB agent but without all the glass, chrome and Biscoff. I know you're in NI but they might post out.

I will try europa cars on Monday, thanks. I’m tempted to submit an FOI to Mercedes for the Datacard for my vehicle , I’m afraid I am like a dog with a bone when it comes to things like this, this is the first car manufacturer I have ever come across that seems to forget that owners who own an older vehicle and keeps it on the road is a good look for them as they can claim how reliable their brand is.

The problem with aftermarket springs is simply this, they may well have or appear to have the correct colour markings ? This does not mean that the spring rate is the same as genuine MB springs. I have been down the spring route and eventually arrived at the Eibach/Bilstein set up after suffering genuine MB springs breaking several times.

The data card will not help. You need the VIN in conjunction with EPC to tot up the option points give the correct spring code. If a dealer parts dept won't help it's because they can't be bothered to do the work. Keep trying different dealers..

And the option points are on the data card............... :dk:

I have no problem going down the aftermarket route but surely I would need the original part numbers for cross referencing. I tried putting my reg in several websites but the result is a varied selection of spring lengths.

Aftermarket is great if you want to change ride height and ride quality. I went Bilstein coilovers for my C class. If you want original ride then MB is the only way.

I just want the same ride height what it came out of the factory with…whatever that is🤔
