2009 clk broken front coil spring

Or simply post the VIN # and someone can look it up.

What I've been saying for ages here. 😉
If someone asks for a part for a W211 E220 CDI then it's difficult to look up on "Parts Information" (new EPC) as first thing you input is the VIN.

Prepare for heresy here. Get a pair of Eibach springs matching your basic suspension setup ( sport/avantgard, comfort) and don’t get hung up on the colour coding. You’ll never notice the difference on a 14 year old car.

I have just spent the last three hours at a mates garage trying to get the coil springs into the strut. He has a floor mounted spring compressor and neither of us can figure out how to compress the spring enough to get it into the strut and get the top mount on. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a guide on this.
The spring compressor he has works on the same principle as this

They are difficult as they have so few coils . Unfortunately there is not advice I can offer, other than the clamps have to be in the exact right place.

I’ve arranged to take the struts to a different mechanic in the morning who has experience of these. It looks so easy on this, I think I’ll be looking to buy the spring compressors in this video.

When i did the front springs on the CLS i took the struts to the supplying main dealer and they fitted them in minutes for a nominal charge.

Unfortunately my main dealer is a 100 mile round trip and apart from that I don't have much confidence in them.

You need a Klann type spring compessor to fit front springs. As previously said with the right tools they can be fitted in minutes, genuine Klann tool is about £1500.00

Finally got the springs in using one of these. Hopefully get the struts back in tomorrow. Turns out both front springs were broken, I think I'll start saving for complete strut assemblies for the next time. Possibly something like this

Anyone know the size of the special socket needed to tighten the strut mount bearing?

Hi, not much to add other than understanding the pain and frustration of compressing a clk spring. Here's my solution 1000030265.jpg

I like your style, that’s true Macgyver in all its glory. Did that actually work?
