I think I need a new car battery but dont know what type to get, I see prices ranging from £95 to £220. The more expensive batteries are quoted as AGM, do I need to spend this much or will a cheaper battery suffice.

I had a quote from a local garage for £126 fitted and one from an MB dealer at £237 fitted so again a huge difference.

Thanks

David

Yesterday at Costco I saw a Bosch Silver S5 013 Battery (100Ah / 830A Crank - which is what my W203 has) for £80. It was double that price at Halfords.

So it seems that prices can differ if you shop around. The first thing to do is to verify the spec of the battery your car needs, then find the part number the Bosch or Varta equivalent etc, and look for it online.

Get a MB battery. Very good quality. When you buy one ask for a discount.

Easier said than done getting the spec of the battery, it is in a compartment under the drivers seat and the only way to remove it looks like by removing the seat and cutting the carpet, the MB dealer I spoke to mentioned this as well.

I think my local garage has under estimated the work involved so a trip to the MB dealer looks to be on the cards.

You do have a point - given that my 8 years old car is still going strong on its original MB battery... :D

My old ML has its original. 12 years old
