Cls350cdi in palladium,C200k in tenorite,Slk320 in red.
After 21/2 years of happy v8 ownership i am looking at replacing my cls with a 250cdi E-class coupe or saloon,i am taking a 25% tax free amount from a pension part of which will fund the difference between the value of my car & whatever car i decide on which will need to last me into my retirement & will save me a lot in runnuing costs, have the 2012 250cdi's got the new injectors & can any current/previous owners comment on them good/bad points?(any help much appreciated).

Hi, I have had my C250 cdi for 2 months. Overall its a great engine, plenty of performance and good MPG on any good run. Town driving can kill the MPG as expected on most cars.

In terms of the engine, I would say most Blue efficiency engines have had the Injectors changed at some point. Mine were done before I bought the car.

I would check with the dealer before buying any car on service/warranty work and if the injectors have been changed.

Hi,thanks for your feedback,i'm looking for a late 2012(up to 6 months old) car so would hope mb are over the injector problems?

there's a low mileage CLS63 (219) in cubanite silver at Bradford for about £21k ..

The E class coupe has the same chassis and therefore wheelbase as the W204 C class saloon. Its a much narrower car than the E class saloon which has wider body and a longer wheelbase. This has a marked effect on the ride quality of the car IMHO You will see less of a change in ride quality and interior size from the CLS if you go E saloon. The coupe has more road presence and probably a more rewarding drive due to its smaller size. I suggest you drive several examples of both before deciding. Injector upgrade to the new solenoid type injectors from the factory would have started around the end of the second quarter of 2012 but as always there would be older production cars in the system too. To be certain I reckon last quarter of 2012 production to be on the safe side but any problems would be sorted with an upgrade if the car was still under manufacturer warranty. Easy enough to tell by a quick shuffty under the engine cover to look for the words solenoid on the engine ECU [ silver box at top of picture ]and return pipes on the injectors. [ the black ones with blue writing on them]

I've had mine coming up to 6 months - great performance and frugality. Done about 12k miles so far, and no new injectors.

7G+ box is great too - whatever others might say it's a great box and certainly no issues here. Only slight niggle is that the dipped beam seems a tad high, but that can wait until the first service.

Thanks for a great write up/pics Grober-i'm viewing/testing a coupe & a saloon in the next week(both under 6 months old,both e250cdi's & aproved used),will check injectors to see if they're the new type.

I predict you will want to scratch that itch soon after you the V8 departs ...
Probably-it will be hard & i will definately miss it(been the best car i've owned & i've had more than a few).

I've tested an E coupe and although I love the looks and the general way it drove (350cdi) I really found the interior too small. I'm 6'2 and found my head virtually touching the roof, even with the seat reclined a little more than I liked and also my shoulder pinned against the door and my left leg against the tunnel! Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has found this, but the thick A pillar seemed right in my line of sight and way too close to my face!

When I got back in my CLS, it felt huge! :D

My CLS replacement is looking more and more like another CLS! :D

I got a new e250cdi coupe at the end of October and have covered 2500k miles so far (50/50 m-way and town driving) averaging 44mpg so far..
Drives well once it's warmed up (bit of a diesel rattle when turned on especially in this cold weather). It's perfect for m-way cruising and enough grunt to overtake.
Only issue I've had is the heated seats re not working properly so it will be going in to get that checked.
Overall it's a very nice car and would recommend

I'm not as tall as you Barry(5'10") & i'm testing the saloon(which is more cls size)too, don't like the look of the new cls otherwise i'd have another one!

Hi,thanks for your feedback,do you know if your car has the new/updated injectors?

Sadly, I have this problem with a lot of the cars I like! Sometimes I wish I was a couple of inches shorter!

Agree about the latest CLS but I'm tempted by the "grand edition" last of the 219s......(a keeper maybe?) and also a wild "classic" toy, but more about that after I've sounded out with SWMBO... :D

We'll see when we get back from Russia. :)

That would be a late 10 plate-sounds like a plan,go for it while you should still get a reasonable part x on your 320!;)

Steve,

Have a look at the new shape CLS. Coming from what you have you'll be dissappointed with the trim in the cars you've selected. The 218 is lovely inside. Get a diesel and you'll fuel bills will near half and you'll have one of the most stylish cars on the road
