2012 E class coupe/saloon?

Steve,

Having just taken delivery of a factory order E220Cdi Estate with a substantial discount, would buying new not be the same price as 6 months old ?

I know when we looked, the only 6 month old models we could find were pretty much the same price but without options we'd want.

I know you said your a cash buyer but taking the car on PCP will give you a massive merc backed discount and then you can just pay it straight off incurring little or no interest.

Just a though

Steve,

Have a look at the new shape CLS. Coming from what you have you'll be dissappointed with the trim in the cars you've selected. The 218 is lovely inside. Get a diesel and you'll fuel bills will near half and you'll have one of the most stylish cars on the road
Love the interior of the 218's Steve but don't like the shape of them anywhere near as much as my 219,that aside i can get an almost new(3 month old) e-coupe for the same price as an 18 month+ 218.

Hi Si,the crs i'm looking at are at the same mb dealership & are all fully loaded ex demo's between 2-6 mths old & between £4,500-£6k cheaper than new, didn't know you could take a pcp with mb then pay it off without being penalised, any links please?

I just did a quick check on drivethedeal and they are offering discounts of about 20% on new diesel saloons so for a £32k car £6k off......thats good if not better and the car would be brand new :-)

No links but PCP is simply buying on credit like HP or a loan and these things get there interest charged daily so just like calling up for an early settlement figure thats much lower than the actual amount you owe, settling the week after you bought the car you'll only pay interest in the time it was on finance ( plus some fees ) but this will be far out weighed by the amount the dealer will give you.

Makes you think

If I was buying my retirement car I'd want it specced exactly as I wanted it with the very latest comand system.

New is better than old if the same price ( or maybe cheaper ) right ?

Hi again Si,thanks for taking the time to post the info above-funnily enough i just looked at the same deal on mb's main site,i wasn't aware that you could get the retailer contribution on finance then pay it off almost immediately with little or no penalty so i would definately be interested now especially ias i don't receive my lump sum until the end of march so i could use the part x value of my cls(circa £12k as deposit/2 monthly re-payments)if i order the exact spec i want now?

Doubt if you will find the details on the MB sites anywhere as that's not what MB finance want. It will be hidden in the "terms and conditions" small print of the agreement. However the system helps subsidise car prices and "shift product" so good MB dealer sales staff know all the current ins and outs ---- exact available subsidies/ sales incentives that can change from one quarter to the next. A few months back irrc you had to pay the first few months interest instalments and then an "early agreement termination " fee before paying it all off - but that paled into insignificance compared to the money off the purchase price. Get a hold of a decent sales guy keen to deal- he's probably your best bet of what's current at any dealership and ask him to spell it out-- this may also vary according to how desperate they are to sell cars----- say coming up to the end of a sales quarter. Deals may also vary from model to model with slower selling models getting a better subsidy ;)

No problems and yes you could certainly do that.

As Graeme says best to speak to the dealer and get them to spell it out.

Mercedes won't want you to do this of course so they won't publicise it.

I had 3 dealers offer me a massive discount as it was the end of the year and the facelift is coming etc etc etc so best to shop around know Mercedes are offering £5150 and see what you can get on top of that :-)

Hi Graeme, makes sense what you are saying & no-one would by new if the dealer contribution/pay off almost immediately on pcp was widely advertised-looks like i'll be heading to a local dealership soon to see what they can do with my cls into the deal-thanks for your help.

Thanks for the offer Si-i'm in surrey & have used mb Brooklands since they opened,i'll see hoi get on with them.

OP - Like you, I am 6' 2". I bought a E 350 CDI Coupe Sport mid November without a 'roof' and really like the seat and headroom - avoid the 'roof' !. I find the whole experience so much better than the XF I had, and didn't really get on with. My Lexus 450h was very very comfortable (no sunroof) but also very very scary as it was quicker than the Coupe but didn't deal with corners very well - I would urge you to look again at the Coupe !!!!
