The bonnet closes on two catches. If you don't drop the bonnet hard enough it doesn't close properly, normally on one side.

Yes, that’s obviously a possibility - but the cynic in me is suspicious as it’s had paint on the front end and the N/S front wing, so a bit of a coincidence that it’s on that side.

That coupled with the fact that the OP doesn’t seem impressed with the paint match/finish, the missing badges/filler etc and that there’s no photos of the engine bay (you’d also expect someone who works for Mercedes to know how to close a bonnet and if not to spot it in the photos?)

Could be nothing but I’d be over it with a fine toothed comb, approved used or not (remember the recent thread for the AU 212 cabriolet?)

That’s the thread that came to mind:

Mercedes approved used

Might not be all that common but just goes what can happen even buying AU from a main dealer.

The car is a 63 plate so it's a very early facelift. 525hp could be correct.

Generally the facelift car is 557ps (550hp) from an 'official' perspective however they are underrated.
Nope, checked total car and it’s a 557
And I agree on underrated , mine was 583 before it’s stage 1

In what way ‘wrong’? It’s a 2013 E63 Bi turbo M157 same as mine- I use Total Car Check and you input the Reg number you get 557, end of...
Data inputted there is from the official registration documents so pointless quoting specifications from a book...

I quoted the official MB figures, hence 'wrong'.

I'm not talking about what a third party 'thinks' or has 'observed'. They have BHP and PS mixed up.

Autotrader, Pistonheads, etc. quote 550BHP. Are they 'wrong'?

The steer wheel is easily tarnished however the altancara can be cleaned with, surprisingly, baby wipes to get it looking new again.

Carlpea, not a deal buster but something I've noticed on all the cars I've looked at with the alcantara steering wheel is how poor the wheel looks with relatively low mileage (30-40k).
If given regular attention can the alcantara wheels be kept looking good? The pic of the wheel for this car looks almost worn through? Jatboy, was it as bad as that?
Is it reasonable to consider recovering?

That was my first attempt at "quoting"
Easy enough to revive - YouTube has s few videos , bit of Ariel liquid in water, microfibre towel, clean water, another microfibre towel, hair dryer and a suede/ nubuck brush to finish

Pre-facelift is 525 ps / 518 hp.

Power increased for facelift as per my original post figures.
Point I was trying to make is that I believe that one to be face lift according to official figures given to DVLA when it was registered. They could be wrong I suppose but who cares

As a rough idea, what would the MB 2 year warranty cover? Everything but consumables or is there plenty of squirming room for them to quote small print and wash their hands?

The steering wheel on mine, at 7000 miles, when I bought it looked horrible:

However after 10 - 15 minutes cleaning with baby wipes it looks much better (Not cleaned it for a while but you get the idea):

On most cars it's not worn through as such just full of skin, sweat, and everything the previous owners were eating in the car .

Well you did try to correct me originally so...

I did indeed, however I don’t disagree with your comment PS vs BHP, seems ill quoted commonly..I wasn’t being deliberately argumentative apologies if it came across that way
