Hi

Had my 98 210 in for wheel alignment check and the guy said there was some recall work to do so i enquired what obviously and was told it is just a bit of waxoyl around the door rubbers.

Anyone else had this recall on there 210 or any other variant.

I let the guy waxoyl the rubbers although they were already done when the car got the doors all replaced in June last year.

Wonder when they are going to waxoyl the spring perches, the boot and bonnet and the wings under a recall. Surely the spring perches should be a recall because of the safety issue? The doors rusting would not be detremental to the safety of the occupants unless the doors were really bad.

But the door tops are causing the most corrosion claims.

door top corrosion

Found some corrosion on 3 door tops this week where the sealing rubber fits, what's the general view on the stealers fixing it?
Car is 2001 e320 estate.

On a 2001 model, you should have no resistance from the dealer or MBUK to a corrosion damage claim. Before you go to the dealer, I would check along all the seams around the doors as i found some rust along the bottom edge of the front doors where the door seal fits. On my doors i had corrosion adjacent to the rear view mirrors. Check all panels for star-shaped spots underneath the paint layer and the box sections around the bonnet - mine had begun to crumble, and MB replaced the bonnet. Finally, check the front subframe for corrosion; mine was replaced last year under warranty.

If the corrosion damage is bad you may be lucky enough to get repalcement doors. In fact, that is the only way to achieve a long-term fix ! At least MBUK are not walking away from those who have affected cars - mainly e-class and some c-class between 1996 and 2002.

Cheers and good luck !
