3 weeks into ownership problems!

...what about the dreaded rusty wheel bolts? ;)

Not yet... No doubt it will happen at some point!!!!!

This is not just Mercedes - BMW Mini x2 ,Fiat Punto and Alfa Romeo Mito -all cars less than 12 months old have suffered this I in my ownership.

I was told this happens when you use acid based products to clean the wheels, I'm not a expert so it could be wrong . I use acid free products and I've never had the problem and my wife has had a Mini and a Fiat 500..

Also I did have a few creaks around the dash board area especially during hot days. A member here had used silicon spray to cure them, I tried this and yes it all quiet now. Worth noting in case you get this.

Hi what spray did you use?

Thank you.

That's how MB tried to fob me off (and presumably everyone else) when I asked about it. And yet some make of cars are prone to it, some not. So if Vauxhall, Renault, Toyota, and Kia were all able to fit bolts that do not rust on the cars I owned, while my MB is now on its second (rusty) set of original wheel bolts......... then MB got it wrong.

If it's any concellation I had the following issues when I bought mine:-

Squeeking drivers side seat belt = trim adjustment to cure problem
Loss of cooling fluid = new radiator due to manufacturing defect
Corroded centre wheel caps = all renewed
Creaking drivers arm rest on door = new door card fitted
Vibrating n/s door mirror = new mirror, motor and casing
Jerking gearbox when cold = software upgrade uploaded for gearbox

Look at it this way adleast the issues are during the warranty period.

Thanks for the tip mate! Was your car approved used or brand new when you got it ? My car also has an immensely squeaky drivers arm rest. [emoji19] didn't think that would be covered under warranty.

I had a really bad experience at a Mercedes dealer when I was trying to buy a car, it ended up with us walking out. However I managed to find another one out of the dealer network, but the car was still under warranty.

Must say my local MB has been quite good, I also thought the arm rest may get rejected but they changed it. Its now a lot more squeak free!!!

I feel like my car has bad luck! Just been in to get a new heater blower fitted due to current one having a whistle. An hour later car is ready and has been washed. Come out to find the lacquer on the bonnet peeling badly. I do have it in writing that Mercedes will repaint the bonnet due to some stone chips at purchase. To get the car back damaged and not being told is a big no no in my books. Should I complain? The pictures aren't the best.

I've had one in the past where it came back from an MB dealership with lacquer stripped on the roof & they claimed it couldn't possibly have been them. This was while the car was in their bodyshop for the second time and it came out with the stripped lacquer, overspray on tyres & windows, orange peel effect, dust & bits in the paint.
Along with other problems the car was rejected for a full refund.
If you think they have caused the lacquer problem on your car you should complain immediately by phone then confirm your complaint in writing.

This is why I hate touching car paintwork because things never seem to be perfect again!!

From previous experience with my other cars, I've had paintwork done and they've never been quite righty again!

What ground should I argue? Knowing that the dealer has already committed to painting the bonnet before I bought it? Just the fact that it shouldn't leave the workshop in a worse state than it went it!? Second time now after a repair the car has come back to me defective! First time being the centre console repair documented in previous posts!

It's all starting to really P*^S me off now!

Not sure if it's just me but the new heater seems louder than the old one!

Mercedes ownership for me hasn't been an experience id want to repeat!

Document it all (past & current faults) in one e-mail/letter stating that you are not happy with the ongoing faults and that you car has come back from them twice worse than when it went in and that you are loosing (or have lost) confidence in them.
You need to decide what you want - do you want them to fix the car or do you want out?
Tell them what you want and if you are asking them to fix it, ask for a goodwill gesture on top for the inconvenience you are suffering. If you want your money back you are unlikely to get anything on top, they may even want to charge you for the use you have had out of the car.
Get someone else to read the letter before you send it to make sure it can be clearly understood and that you are not being unreasonable.

I'm going to give them one last chance I think to sort it out properly! With extensive good will! If they can't do that then I'll give them the opportunity to exchange the vehicle! If this isn't an option they will entertain then I'll opt for a full refund!

I will ensure they give me full written agreement to goodwill of my liking before the repair the bonnet. What would you feel is acceptable to ask for? I'm thinking an extra years warranty on top with a free service plan!

I have given them ample opportunity to get things right.

So far:

- Xenon lights replaced due to water droplets inside
- practically a new panoramic roof mechanism
- repaired centre console to a poor standard so needed replacing
- fault heater motor which still seems to make a noise, if not louder!
- bonnet lacquer peeling (better pic attached)

- drivers seatbelt sometimes doesn't retract properly and stays all 'floppy' so I need to feed it back in myself.
- slight ticking noise from the passenger side when driving on uneven surfaces.

don't forget to watch your 6 month statutory right to reject if they can't fix it in one go.

You could ask for both, worst they can do is cut you back to one or the other

Tried ringing them 3 times today but everyone seems to be in a meeting which is really starting to p**s me off.

It sounds like you should negotiate a way out of this car, I doubt that you will ever be happy with it.

Is this not just the start of the widely reported problems with MB red paint? - see the other recent threads on this subject.

6 calls later I managed to get the service manager on the phone. Her excuse was I haven't got to the email that's dealing with that issue yet. I haven't even had an apology or anything.

If I were swap the car, I can't find one like it for the price I paid [emoji17] this is the only reason I would want to keep it. There is a grey one that I'd consider swapping for but it has no panoramic roof and its £700 more which I wouldn't really want to pay.

Service manager is going to look at the surveillance video and ring me tomorrow.

I'll email the dealer principle now stating I want a free service plan and an extra years warranty plus the bonnet to be repaired. If they can't meet these terms then I will ask for an exchange or refund.

Any other ideas on how to tackle the situation?
