Hi to you all. I have finally bought my first mercedes having been a BMW man for the last 10 years. I am asking readers of this post where I might get a 2nd hand exhaust for the above vehicle. Can anyone give me some pointers, alternatively are there any web sites that dedicate themselves to this vehicle from a repair / servicing perspective. Very appreciative for any help you may be able to give.

Hi, welcome to MB ownership. Living fairly close by (near Stowmarket) I can't help on the exhaust front but can recommend Derrick Wells at Needham Market for servicing and repairs. He is a Mercedes man through and through and is good value compared with the main dealers; also you get courtesy cars and a very good level of customer care.

www. derrickwells.com for details. Hope this helps!

Eurocarparts will supply an exhaust for this vehicle either OEM quality or 'alternative' quality (ie 'cheap') .

However , I have found that sometimes the genuine part from the dealer will be very competitive . Plus membership of certain owners' clubs can entitle you to a discount .

When I recently bought a rear section for my 190E from M-B Glasgow it was about £77

For the 300 , the middle and rear sections should not be too extortionate (your car will not have a cat) and the front section (downpipes) tend to last forever . It is not a difficult DIY job to fit these parts ( I did it on my last 300TE ) , just remember to get the fitting kit which comprises of a couple of clamps , rubber 'O' rings etc.

MangoMan,

Thanks for the links.

For a 190E 2 litre downpipe MB want £165, G & S £75, catman only £45!

Have you ever bought anything from him? Any good? Will my car sound funny?

Hi Neil,

as far as I know he sells lots of Exhaust Systems built to OEM Standards. It shouldn't sound any different than it does now, or before with the standard one from new.

Well, lets put it this way, I would buy from him.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Bill.
:)

Nothing yet, but I'll give catman a try when I do get around to attending to it. It has a VERY tiny leak so is reallly only noticable to the trained ear.
