Folks

My 300te Auto 4matic makes a distinct ticking but only when MOVING and in REVERSE. It increases with road speed but only when you have reverse engaged.

If you roll back in Neutral..No noise. Any forward gears..No noise.

I have a sneaky feeling that the parking pawl has dropped? As it absolutely sounds like a something ticking over a gear teeth. Could this be possible? Any clues what else it could be?

Assuming that it is the parking pawl would that be a big job to get at?

Many Thanks.

Bruce

May not be relevant to more modern auto's but I had a 1974 Opel Manta auto, and that developed a ticking/tingling noise in all forward gears, after much dismantling and re-assembling it turned out to be a dust cover over the flywheel inspection hole in the bell housing, it had been bent inwards by road debris, and the flywheel teeth were catching on it when under torque.
I'm not saying this will be the same problem, but don't discount the strange/wierd/cheap/obvious fix.
