380SEL high revs idle issue

My friend has trouble with his SEL it idle really high at idle 1200-1300 seem like the mixture is rich. cars with automatic primer close the air until certain temperature is achieved then open the air valve to lean back the mixture to normal, am I correct? if so do you think some sensor that controls the movement of that air valve has failed so it is closed atll times? (this is my mate's opinions) any help will be appriciated thanks

It doesn't work like that.
The air bypass is to allow air to leak past the throttle flap to increase the idle speed. This pulls the air flap downwards so the fuel is increased accordingly along with the additional cold start injector being actuated.
When warm both devices shut off leaving th emain Jetronic unit to work.

If the mixture is too strong adjust the jetronic mixture screw after checking the OVP relay is working.
