3rd brake light

Some of the LEDs are failing on my current unit. Has anyone tried just the circuit board replacements off ebay from Germany or alternatively how easy is it to repair the current LEDs that have failed.

I presume that your 3rd brake light is similar to the 2005 CLK.

I've not tried the replacement circuit boards from Germany, but I did dismantle the unit & replace the LEDs. The LEDs themselves were quite cheap from Farnell. However, they are surface mount and an utter pain to replace. Next time I'm buying the complete unit from the dealer, and saving 3 hours of effort.

Ian your definetly right so much less hassle buying a new unit.
The led board is half the price so thought someone might have bought one and share their experience, also just replacing the board will mean no need to take the actual light body out so no need to worry about sealing it etc so water doesn't get in.

£60 from main dealer, compete unit, tougher than the original which is prone to cracking when bootlid is slammed, takes around 30mins to fit. Easy enough once you remove boot lining.

not worth the hassle repairing, just replace, get the facelift one from the later w211
