Hi,

I have not had much chance to take the GTS out, still have only 700 miles on the clock.
Noticed after a slightly spirited 10 min drive. Keeping revs under 4.5k and no more than 2/3 throttle that oil was at 105C and water around 96C.
Speeds 30 to 50 just giving it some beans from the lights. Not much standstill either.
I Did obviously start the run with a warmed up engine.
Is this not high?

Cheers

in a word no not really
the oil if too low wont burn off deposits and if water too low then car will run rich
in an ideal world i wld be looking at 95-100 for oil and 90 deg for water
although mine is the c63 thats the temps i see maybe a little lower
i am looking into a larger oil cooler soon

Looks about spot on to me.

105-110C is not unusual and for the reasons stated earlier. Audi RS set their stats at similar levels so suspect it's normal. Just requires premium quality oils to support those regular temps, so no topping up with a 20/50 multigrade from the corner shop......

Completely normal.

ALL engine oils are designed to run at 100 deg C minimum (aldi or mobil1) to ensure moisture is boiled off and explelled as crankcase vapours. The summer grade is rated at 100degC too.

I.e. the "40" bit of 10W/40 is rated at 100degC as that it the "standard" temp.

My e63 runs at 105 pootling, 120 on a medium drive, 130 if you nail it. Previous BMWs ran 110 to 120 Normal, limp at 137.

If it's running under 100 when warm you have a problem.
