Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone is aware of someone being able to go 4 wheel alignment in the Glasgow area or even outside within a 20 mile radius or so that specifically can do mercs.

I had mine done at a very well known alignment specialist but for some reason they struggled.

They managed to do the alignment as best they could and all the boxes went green which is fine but the wheel is still not centre!!!

Very annoying!

I went back twice to have it redone with the same person however he said its because sometimes when the car settles a little with air suspension it can happen.

Not sure if that's true but would rather go to a specialist that has knowledge of mercs.

Thanks

I used McConechys in Thornliebank before sand they were very good.

Uses the Hunter system

If it is only he wheel that is off centre and the alignment is fine then why cant you just move one track rod one way and the other the opposite way this will keep he alignment the same but move the steering wheel position.

I have had to do this on most of my cars as it is a pet hate of mine , i even did it on my daughters car and i hardly get to drive it unless it needs petrol.

Best thing is that it is free and you can get it spot on if you take our time, on my CLS you can access the rods on full lock so no need to remove the wheels.

Maybe the S Class is different due to the Airmatic but the principle must be the same :dk:

Black diamond tyre services in Clydebank. He has the newest hunter machine and is a merc expert. Had all my cars done by him. Brilliant. Robert is his name.

pro-grip Wheel Alignment

This guy is brilliant with Mercs

:( He's the person I went to that struggled to centre the wheel :(

KennyN: That might not be a bad idea - will need to do a lot of checking up on how to do it. Thanks
HB: Thanks for the recommendation - might give them a call a see what they say.

Strange! He's done 2 of my Mercs fitting cambe bolts each time and getting them spot on. Was it John you saw?

The guys at McConecheys did my S500 and determined I had a worn bush on the rear suspension and that they couldn't do the alignment properly until I had it repaired.

No charge at that time.

Indy confirmed the problem, made the repair and I took it back for alignment.

I dont think the alignment is the issue as the OP said that it was all within spec and it was just the wheel that was not sitting correctly , which seems like an easy fix without going through the whole , costly, alignment process again.

Hi,
yes it was John - a genuine lovely person and was clearly passionate about what he does. Even while he was working we spent the whole time chatting about wheel alignment and wheel balancing in general.

It is a good 50 miles away from me so made the 100 mile trip to him has his reputation was unbeatable.

Once he done it he did mention the issue with having no adjustment bolts on the front and it wasn't worth getting done either as apparently some who get them them done still have alignment off. he said mine wasn't that bad at all and just needed some adjustment so made them match. car rides great its just the dam steering wheel ( I am just so fussy)

I would say its off between 1-3 degrees (that is a total guess). I need to hold the steering wheel slightly to the right to get the car to go straight.

I went back twice after having a blast on the motorway - each time I noticed it was off. I had no time after that to keep going back and the last time he did mention it sometimes takes time to settle so I was hoping it would however its been 7 months now lol.

I would have happily went back later however as you can imagine its a long trip for wheel alignment and even though fuel is not an issue its still something to take into account in terms of having to go back for something I shouldn't need to.

I am always in and out of Glasgow so would be ideal of some well known in this area could have a look.

1-3 degrees doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about Sir. Remember UK roads are cambered hence your car will always tend to want to go left all the time hence you gently pull slightly right to counteract it...is that what you are experiencing? If the hunters system is saying its spot on then I wouldn't worry Sir...but then again we all have different tolerances don't we

Just back from Yoker Tyres - Next Day Fitting From BLACK DIAMOND TYRE SERVICES | FALKEN who are Black Diamond Tyre Services got Robert to do my S204 due to outside wear edge and slight pull to the right.

Very professional service and top bloke they use the latest Hunter system:bannana:
Its nice that you can watch it getting done in front of you.

So impressed that I will be taking all my customers cars here now even at just under a 50 mile round trip :thumb:

And remember to read the sticky by WheelInMotion about pull to left
