4x4 - Why?

A whole new world opens before me! :D

Ok then, what is the highest NxNxN you can find? :dk:

Pictures and/or links to verify the claim!!

Bah, I thought I had a dead cert but it turns out it's tracked:

Crawler-transporter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm going to go with something military though, and Russian (of course) - some sort of TEL. Too early in the week to start identifying the most-wheeled ICBM launcher of the last 50 years though :D

Something like this:

As far as I can tell it's a 16x16x8....
ETA: It almost certainly wins the record for acceleration and top speed for a 4x4 (or higher) though, provided you can get that booster to ignite..

Ooh, a good one (although cheating a little bit); have thought of something that's 56 x 56 x 0 :D

Why does the term "2 short planks" spring to mind??

Got to admit that one has me beaten.......surely the length of the planks doesn't affect their thickness......never did understand that statement.

And surely elementary civil engineering states that the longer the plank, the thicker it would need to be?

Even the internet can't give me a satisfactory answer on this one :(

You really must get things in proportion....;)

here.

Welcome to ROSENBAUER - World Class Technology

click on the video start and watch a performance 8x8 doing its bit and pieces.

you can get rear steer option for it too, but as it tends to retail at not far short of £1m, not many buy them!

most people wish other people did however.:)

No, it means the thickness (of the person) is related to the length of the planks, where the length, due to it's relative shortness, can be 'mistaken' for their thickness.... Simples! :D

But a 4x4 without locking diffs becomes a 4x2 if one side is on the slippery stuff.;)

Surely its either a 16x16, or a 16x8? What is a 16x16x8?

16 wheels, 16 driven wheels, 8 steering wheels

Am I correct?

But....it is still only a 16x16

Otherwise my Disco would be a 4x4x2, wouldn't it?

Im not sure what they are called but i have seen them on telly and they are heavy lift platforms with approx 100 wheels and all drive and all steer.

My merc 4x2x2, old series 2 4x2x2 and 4x4x2 when you remember to lock the hubs in!

Surely still 4x2x2 unless you have locking diffs?
Freewheeling hubs (IIRC) are ONLY to improve fuel consumption on tarmac, as it stops you from driving the front power train from undriven wheels.

Now a G-Wagen. THATS a 4x4x2!
