500e

Yes, looks nice, but too high a price IMHO. Doesn't mention current mileage directly, but:

Average mileage of 12,000 miles/19,000 kilometres per year from NEW over the past 15 Years.
That would be 180,000 miles, probably a bit above that in reality.

Doesn't say how many owners either :

First it says: ONE Family owned from NEW (Father & son)

Then it says:

One owner from NEW

Since the first owner was in Germany:

Originally purchased by a German Marketing Co., for the Managing Directors, as his Company Car.

Assuming "him" (but why does it say "for the Managing Directors") to be the first owner, then his son, is the UK seller the third owner then in reality?

I think that's the going rate these days for a well maintained car, even the member that imported his from Japan paid about 8 or 9.

I think you may be referring to me but i didnt pay anything like that

Also, like the number plate, 'Hi 5 Litre'.

Yeah, its too overpriced.

High petrol prices = £6k realistic price

To be honest petrol prices aren't making any difference to specialist car prices. £8k more realistic with that mileage.

Petrol prices don't come into play when you are dealing with a classic car :)

True, but because these cars are rare, the dealers make a massive mark up, the fact that they don't sell immediately at these prices is a separate issue. My own opinion, if I could not find a good example to import I would buy this car if I had the money.

you can always use the "make me an offer" button :)

I dont think fuel price or market conditions have much of an impact on these cars - for collectors with a passion for these cars, all that matters is a good example.

10k is cheap for a good 500e, although i cannot say this is good or bad as i have not seen it in person. Had it been a low mileage original UK car or a black 040 example, it'd be worth a good 50% more.

It's diesels that will be hit if current fuel prices continue, not petrol ;)

I feel that petrol prices will impact the value of all these cars, especially in a couple years down the line if the prices continue to increase at a rate that they are. People just can't afford to run them anymore. I know alot of people who have sold their 500E's and even a 300SEL 6.3 sometime back because of the rising fuel prices.

You guys are right to an extent, mostly collectors would buy such a car (500E) for its legendary status - to everyone else it looks like a normal e-class!

Firstly, that has by far the best paint scheme of any 500E, but i'm biased.

As for the fuel issue lowering costs, far from it. In my opinion these cars are normall bought because the person WANTS a 500E, not someone who just wants a good powerful 4 door saloon. A well maintained one with all the proper service work done (Loads of these things get missed imo) will be a great car to own. I paid 9500 for my car 2 years ago with 176,000km on it, I wanted the earliest car possible after researching them for a while and ended up buying one from a friend. I don't ever wish to sell it and it's my everyday car when i'm home, if the fuel keeps rising it will still be my everyday car, the people who want them either appreciate the costs involved or use it for high days and holidays.

As for Mobile.de, I had a friend who lives in germany look at a few for me and the condition of most is just not good enough for the car, you can easily spend huge amounts fixing bad servicing and buying a good example to start with is the best way to save money.

If the car is as described and looks as good in person as in the pictures, I think it is a sensible price.

Dave!

Ive decided I am going to invest in one of these soon.. but all that seems to come up is either over priced or high miles.. yes yes, i hear IBW say they can do a gaziliion miles but id rather have one with reasonable miles, anything up to 100K ish is fine..
