S211 E500 - Nice interior

It’s the sort of car that would have been a nice buy ten years ago with 60/70/80k miles for £15k or something from the second owner :thumb:

But regardless of the mileage these are getting on a bit now in age. It’s not just the engine and drivetrain you have to think about - rusty brake pipes, worn out suspension bushes and joints etc are all annoyingly expensive niggly jobs that seem to increase in frequency with age and mileage. 10% plus of the vehicle’s value in VED every year too will further limit the appeal.

Great car though for someone - just a bit of a reality check once you look past the lovely stitched ‘leather’ dash and seats etc 😎

Petrol car inflation's a wonderful thing. A six year old V8 estate on 70k miles is now £25k

Ten years ago, I bought a 2004 S211 E500 with 40k on the clock from its first owner, a ninety year old wheelchair user in St Johns Wood.

They were asking £7,500, so I paid £6,750. (It was December and who buys cars privately in the month before Christmas?)

Ten years ago, I did indeed buy a 2004 S211 E500 with 40k on the clock from its first owner, a ninety year old wheelchair user in St Johns Wood.

I paid less than £10k for both of my old E55K wagons, and I’m sure that the first one of those I bought was ten years ago too.

VED was a lot less back then and of course pre-2006 helps a fair bit too.

I think in fairness I might be a bit out with my numbers as this ‘08 car would have only been 6/7 years old ten years ago  but still you knew what I meant :)

For sure. I'm just highlighting that petrol (not diesel) inflation has been crazy. New Range Rovers for £100-£200k now. Seriously?

And (Grrr, grrr) MB wasn't really"allowed" to sell big petrol estates after 2010, so what few they did sell had to be AMG priced.

Five years ago, I turned down a low mileage immaculate 2007 SL500 for £10k. These days? More like £15k

Virtually every V8 I've sold over the last decade is still worth about the same price that I sold it for, even with the extra mileage that folks would have added. (Except the S class, natch)

Nice, unique high spec car, that's well-priced for the mileage. Best suited for an S211 fan.

I think it's overpriced; the valuation I found for it was £3.5K average private, dealer forecourt £5.5K. The interior and spec, if it's as good as it looks in the pictures, will push the price up a fair bit, I suppose, but it's still highish mileage and the annual VED won't help; nor will the fact that it's for sale just before Christmas. I'm definitely an S211 fan, though...

I've had a lot of leggy-ish S211s, though none as leggy as that one; I've had the bills for them too. Terry Gates quite likes me...

Excellent. Let us know when you see another one owner full MB history S500 on 20k miles being offered for £5.5k on a dealer forecourt.

Wrong thread, perhaps? It's not an S500, it's not one owner, it's not on 20K miles...

Apologies, my fault, yes, I confused this reply with the other thread that’s running.

But not to let you off the hook, if you’ve got a tidy high mileage petrol E500 estate for £3,500 on a dealer forecourt, you should share it on here.

Because we’ve got a lot of families and even builders in London who will happily pay £3,500 for a clean ULEZ compatible E class estate. Even with the annual road tax and the 27mpg. Wouldn’t want to do high mileage in it, but a perfect short range or occasional weekend toy.

A ridiculous 93 people are watching that this little old Mercedes estate, so it’s obviously tickling a few fancies

I'm not on any hooks; that wasn't my valuation, and as I qualified it, the spec and in particular the interior will push the price up. Conversely, selling it at this time of year will push the price down, possibly quite a bit. It's worth what somebody is actually prepared to pay for it at the time of sale...

Lots of people watching hasn't - yet - led to somebody snapping it up, so it's not the bargain of the year. I bet he's had a few enquiries from hopeful tossers looking to make a quick buck, though.

I was thinking £5.5k might buy it; I wouldn't pay more than that at this time of year.

You could wait until after Christmas if he wants £6k maybe? ;)

Maybe... He may be an occasional dealer; the latest V5 was issued in September, but the car has only done 500 miles since the MoT in August, and hasn't been taxed since July 1st. On the other hand, it may have done those miles on trade plates between July and when he acquired it.
