507 or not??

Hmm I’m not 100% convinced of paying £30kplus to a non main dealer as it is and you saying that does make me wonder if I should keep a look out on merc websites instead. I may wait untill 205 c63s drops into my price range of 30-35k hopefully shouldn’t be that much longer

I just know someone who has had a bad experience with that one particular garage. Not saying all independents would be the same though.

There is currently a very rare 507 saloon in the classifieds that is worth a look. Private sale but from a known owner who looks after his cars and also has a 1 year of a MB warranty left on it.

You will be surprised - I bought my 507 from a main dealer a couple of months ago. They do come up now and again.

Is yours the one currently for sale back on autotrader? Or am I getting confused?

I have a 507, had two now. It's a proper mans car. Is the 205? No. Just an opinion though!

There is one 507 currently for sale with a main dealer, has over 60k on the clock but fits within your budget. But trust me on this...just because its with a main dealer doesn't mean its a good well looked after car.

I bought mine privately for way over your budget, but it was the only car I saw that hadn't been ditched and repaired.

The 205 is a great car. I have a friend in Stuttgart who works for MB and has just collected his C63 estate company car. Coincidentally I have just collected my 507 estate. He was SO ENVIOUS! His opinion was that the 507 is a true classic, the last of the ‘real’ AMGs with a ridiculously big normally aspirated V8.

And I wholeheartedly agree with him!

The 205 is a great car, has great tech, more features, etc, etc. But it’s just an ‘off the shelf’ modern car, whereas the 507 is a classic muscle car, a real hairy chested AMG, and quite rare.

So as others have said, it’s really down to what you actually want out of the car. If absolute practicality is top of your list, the 205 would be better. If character and emotional appeal and pure hedonistic driving pleasure is important, the 507 would probably appeal more.

I bought a 507 Coupe (with only 24k on the clock) and loved it. But family needs made me hanker after a 507 estate, and they’re über rare, so when I saw a 23k miles, one owner estate for sale I weakened and swapped the Coupe for the estate. So now I’m on my second 507! But I hope and intended to keep this one a bit longer!

When did this occur? You didn’t have the coupe long? is it the GKirby car you’re bought?

I know it was. But I didn’t buy it then did I !?

What’s one to do, lament would could have been and do nothing... or...?

But yes, the guys gave me a good price for mine and swapped over the front discs and pads for me, there was nothing wrong with the ones on the car I bought, but the ones on my Coupe had only done around 1k miles. And given how expensive they are, I thought I’d like to keep ‘em.

Sorry Nigel, didn't mean for you to take it wrong. I still think it was a bargain at the price they advertised for a 1 owner estate... where you going to get another?! Think the original seller was just impatient.

I didn’t take it wrong, no need to apologise, you just piqued the thoughts I’d already had myself, that’s all!

Bottom line for me is that I will only do low miles anyway, so I convinced myself that it was worth forking out for a low mileage car as it will stay low and hold its value.

At least that’s how I managed to convince myself.

The reality, of course, is simply that I wanted it... and as you say, one owner, low mileage FMBSH 507 estates don’t exactly grow on trees...!

507 1 owner estate?? Wow. That’s some rarity.

It is. And amazingly, there’s another 507 1 owner estate for sale in the classified section right now ...!

Nice! Seen that one, Sadly the Mileage is getting on a bit.
Think yours might be the only estate with such low miles? Smart move nevertheless
