I thought 6.5'' Speakers fitted in the front of the W202 without the bose system easily? Even if I dremelled the small plastic mount, I couldn't fit some shallow mount speakers in :(

So I've hacked the door to pieces literally, with tinsnips, a file and a hammer, in order to widen the hole to 6.5'' and bolted a 18mm MDF spacer directly to the remaining metal work... theres not amount of room particularly as the find rail mount is right next to the speaker home.

So now I've got the Calibre CSC6 6.5 250w Max 80w RMS Woven Woofer in the door, now the tweeter needs to be in the dash, the crossover box hidden and the JBL 2 Channel amplifer installed in the boot. Hard to work on this car compared to my Toyota everythings solid and requires lots of dismantling.

Also I've had to trim the door card metal, luckily the mess is covered my the speaker grill.

Maybe it wasn't worth it in the end, but they do sound fantastic.

Pics to Follow shortly.

Not sure if it's different on the facelift cars, but I always thought that the front doors could take most 6.5" speakers with adaptors or some MDF spacers.

I had some 6.5" JBL components in the front doors of one of my W202s but that was a late pre-facelift model. No cutting of metalwork from memory (it was a good few years ago!), but I did make some adaptors to suitably space them out. :)

I installed 6.5" Infinity 3-ways in the front of mine and they were really easy to do, I actually fitted them outside the shop I bought them from.

I bought the autoleads speaker adapter at the same time which with my limited knowledge and skills found it very easy to fit.

I wish I had a 165mm Hole cutter, in my set with an Arbor. Would of made a nice neat job instead of butching the door!

The window goes up and down nicely though, guess that and the fact the speakers are in and covered is the only real thing to worry about?

Guys I think you got Swallow Mount Speakers, these Calibre things are huge. 73mm Mounting Depth and the cone extends backwards, so it's 145mm at the back of the actual cone, I don't think there's alot of doors they'd fit without modification, they are top notch SQ for their price. IMHO.
