So many experts on forums from my experienceSomeone was telling me about it so i thew it on here for open discussion, wow negative comments is putting it mildly![]()
I hope you have plenty spare cash, I’m sure the cams are around £600 each, adjusters around the same plus the price for the lifters although INA have apparently got better lifters unless Mercedes have a superceeded part no, I have heard of people fitting the lifters from an sls black series but I’d imagine the cost will outweigh the benefits wasn’t a hard job tbh just a bit time consuming. But with the right tools it’s a doddleCongrats on a job well done! Take my hat off to you. I’ll take a look at the cams on mine later this year and will replace them, lifters and adjusters if necessary. First I’ve the rest of the chassis to do.
Be interested to see some pics and progress on thisOh they aren’t cheap. Just spent nearly 2k on discs pads and brake servo. Rear springs just done and now all control arms, shocks and rear anti roll bar to get. This car is a resto project and a keeper.
Every car I’ve owned has left my possession in better shape than when I bought them,
Looks cleanA couple pics
Mine has been Mercedes Maintained until 2017, I don’t have the receipts but I contacted Mercedes who sent me a list of what the car was booked in for, 2 and a half pages full of work, it was then owned by a German car specialist and then onto myself. I’m hoping to restore it a bit and it’s also more a summer car so plan to use the winter to do bigger jobs if neededIt’s in good shape, but I bought the car for 3 reasons;
1 it’s a summer car
2 I take it to shows, and following the death of my parents last year, I’m showing it in their memory
3 unless I win the lottery, this will be my last performance car.
It has 89036 on the clock and 13 services, 11 of which are main dealer, 1 by dronsfields of Oldham and 1 by mb Liverpool.
I have the service book indicating the services but I called the service department of the last dealer to maintain it and due to data protection couldnt disclose the invoices plus they aren’t available due to a system change but they have I’m sure it’s called a damage list which gives the dates and what work was carried outHow did you contact them? Like you I have very little paperwork, but have copies of the dsb stamped my main dealer
If I could get a hold of the receipts for mine I’d have been over the moon but they were telling me they can’t or won’t I’m not sure which appliesThanks. I know the parts manager so will ask him to pull a couple of strings for me
06 -08 (ish) have the T55 female bolts, they have slightly more meat at the top than the T60 female bolts, so a little stronger.Nice one lads glad to see people getting the benefit out the plates, so far so good mine are ok.
im currently collecting parts to do the headbolts as they are a problem from 06-10 or 11 so mine defo falls into that category
so far I have all genuine cam cover gaskets, oil filter and housing gasket, cam adjuster gaskets, exhaust and inlet manifold gaskets, bosch air filters, idler pulleys and tensioner unit, along with a full set of bushes and balljoints for the front end (lemforder)
just need head gaskets, headbolts, lifters, revised timing chain tensioner, 5w40 oil, valve stem seals (no point going this far and not doing them) probably change all the vac lines asp I’ll clean and relap the valves along with checking for wear in the guides
probably going to coat the cam covers as they are all chipped so a refresh would do some good
Got my winter all planned out by the look of it lol
Yeah there are a few videos floating about on YouTube, I particularly like Tasos, his videos are pretty good. The torque setting for the adjuster is 25nm but not more than that and a little locktight wouldn't go miss. This is great info.
Is there a definitive how to guide on replacing the plates including the tools needed, torque settings etc…?
