'98 E class - reset service light

Evening all. My '98 E55 has the "Service Due Now" message displayed, and it doesn't want to play when I try to reset it. The procedure in the handbook (printed 1997) is:

Ignition key to position 2 - press the O button twice within one second - ignition to position 0 - Press and hold button O - ignition to position 2 (button O stll pressed) - after 10 seconds there is a beep and it resets.

Only mine doesn't... After ten seconds there is indeed a beep, but the "Due Service Now" message remains.

Have I misinterpreted something, or is there another procedure I could try? Please help.

Same as in my manual - I have the pre-facelift model, though, so only the "Light Truck" instructions apply

I gave it another go, though, and success :bannana: I still don't know what I did wrong the first half-a-dozen times, though ...but I don't care.
