Hi everyone.....just had a/c engineer out to re-gas my unit....after he'd done it,,he tested it for leaks, and unfortunately there was 1 or 2 leaks coming out from the ac condensor.
What would anyone suggest as the best course of action?? Re-condition condensor from breakers, new condensor, or could the existing one be fixed at all? Basically the cheapest way, so that i can get it working fine again...Thanks :(

Sorry,,forget to mention the model,,,,,its a w202 c280 , 97'.

When I had mine replaced it cost close to £300 quid.

If you're looking to get a repair instead, I guess the best place to try is a specialist company that re-cores radiators. I'm not sure if they can repair condensors though as I thought they run under higher pressures than a standard engine rad? Hmm I'm not sure.

how bad is the leak? sub pin holes can sometimes be fixed with a sort of goo that is injected into the system - surely the a/c technician should have advised.

if its the core that needs replacement it might be a nightmare... and expensive...

well the ac guy tested for leaks with this bleeper tool, and it went off in 2 areas. Iasked him how long id have the gas left in for seeing as it was leaking and he thought 1 or 2 days possibly.
He said he could get me the condensor for 160 quid +vat, but he couldnt fit it for me as he didnt have time, but the guy he'd refer me to charged £35 per hr. Which i guess would work out dear,,,£300 + after everything!

if its going to cost the same as the dealer, then its best to have it done at the dealer, as this way you will have the part warranted for a year after fitting, plus a bill from the dealer will look better when shown with other papers when selling the car in the future.

London MB dealers charge £90 per hour or so PLUS VAT. George Fraser charges £60 plus VAT, so it sounds CHEAP!

yeah i agree. £300 at a dealer isnt so bad. i was expecting at least double if i was to take it to a dealers, knowing how dear they are! Ill have ot call the service department and ask them for a rough price i guess.
