Took delivery today of a 51 plate A160 lwb automatic. The car is in lovely condition for its age , except for the indicator stalk does not cancel after making a turn. The seller advised me that it is not worth replacing it ( possible MOT fail?) , as it is a recurring problem on this model, and the new unit is liable to break after only a few months. Has anyone had experience of this issue , and is there an alternative stalk that can be used? Apparently the failure is caused by the plastic/nylon lugs shearing off? Any help would be much appreciated.

Typically a new stalk is approx £80 and will take ~1hr or less to fit. Comes with a 2yr warranty .....

Question (genuine), do you only get the 2 yr warranty if a dealer fits the part?

No! Two years irrespective.
I had a faulty O2 sensor and was told by MB the 2 years was for the part and didn't matter that I fitted it.
