A class rear view camera constantly opening at slow speed

Hi, I'm a new owner of an A200 and have the same issue with the rear camera calibration.
Does anybody know WHY the rear camera needs to calibrate in the first place?
(I already have an EQA and that camera don't need to calibrate)

It is a design issue in many new Mercedes models. Apparently Mercedes lost a $20M law suit in the US so they had to come up with this botched fix quickly. It has been driving me crazy ever since I bought the car.

If you do find a solution, please share. There are thousands of MB owners complaining about this problem but Mercedes is closing all complaints with excuse "the camera works as designed".

I just sent an email to Mercedes because the dealer just updated the software but the issue was not fixed. Will keep this thread updated.

Don’t expect MB to ‘fix’ it. It probably working correctly to their plan. The camera will extend and attempt to calibrate provided you travel in a straight line for one minute at less than 18.6mph. Failure to do that and it will retract but attempt to try again when you next slow down, perhaps at a roundabout or traffic lights. It will continually attempt to calibrate until successful.
Because of the above mentioned fine MB ignore complaints and fail to explain the situation to customers.
Dealers just offer updates to bring it up to the above requirement.
Our only option is to keep on complaining..

I actually complained to them about the noise. Maybe they can solve that.
i also own an EQA and have no issues with the camera because is not noticeable when it operates.

Having purchased mine in March 2024 I complained for the first month to the Dealer and got nowhere, then by email every three weeks throughout last year to MB Customer Services. Most of the time I got a simply reply that they would look into it but never an acknowledgment or solution. As said it is a problem noted on many forums in other countries.
As I see it it’s not a design fault as it performs exactly as MB want it to.
There were probably only a few camera failures in the USA but MB lost the resulting lawsuit and were fined initially $15m and forced to pause all sales.
They did what most manufacturers would do and starting 2024 initiated a calibration check on every startup. I have no doubt that they are totally satisfied with the original camera software but were forced into a difficult situation.
The failure as I see it is a refusal by MB to inform customers or acknowledge worldwide complaints.
UK Dealers make it more frustrating by denying that they know anything about it and then offering a software update which solves nothing.
Having purchased a good many new Mercedes over the years they have lost my vote forever after having bought this one.

Thanks for the details. I bought my last 3 cars from them… If they keep ignoring us, will lose many customers.

Did you read on? Care to share it if you did?
It does say functionality improvements. It was downloading when I got out of the car so I will see what happens on my next drive later! I'm not holding my breath!

Is the rear camera controlled by the MBUX infotainment system? I am aware that the camera links into the display, just not sure if COMAND actually manages the camera's calibration.

Yeah, you're probably right. I just got a little excited when I saw the word update!

Just joined this group and have a question for A class owners. Bought a new 2023 A class 180 in April and I have an issue with the rear view camera. When I first set off the rear view camera opens then closes once you get to about 20mph. Thats no problem so far. What happens next is a problem though. Every time I slow down to 16mph the camera opens then closes again once I get back up to 20mph. It can do this for up to 10 times or even more before it stops doing it. It does this every time I start the car after it has been sitting for a while. The camera opening and closing is very noisy and extremely irritating. I took it into the dealer and after doing some tests and attempted software updates I was advised that this is normal operation on the new A class as it carries out a recalibration every time the car is started up. I was taken out for a test drive in another A class and it did indeed do the same thing. Anyone else on here experienced this issue?
I have the same camera in my c class with no problems to it so I don’t see why the a class should be any different

As a recent purchaser of a 24 plate A180, I am experiencing the problem of the camera coming out at slow speed when coming to a stop.
Has anyone had any resolution from Mercedes?
I see that this problem goes back a couple of years.

Mercedes flatly refuse to do anything about this fault and come up with "It is a characteristic of the vehicle"
MB enthusiast of many years standing, never again.

I quite often see them parked up with the camera out......
