A class rear view camera constantly opening at slow speed

Ps: if you go too fast the cal aborts until the next time you go slow so no wheelies until calibrated
Many thanks for coming back so promptly after your upgrade. But I wonder if I am misreading your report because it seems to be exactly the same with the fault still there.

Does it still need to calibrate every single time you switch on the ignition?

This sounds like how it was before the “fix.”
Yes but it is no problem now taking less than a minute and staying closed when done. Not perfect but so much better. Just drive away slowly....It no longer pops out every time you slow down
Have I got this right?
It calibrates if you drive in a straight line for 1 minute and it does this every time you start.
If it fails to calibrate it tries again the next time you slow down.
If you go too fast it aborts.
What is different to original requirements?
Or did your car have a basic fault anyway?
the difference is that it only takes less than a minute and it does not pop out again when you slow down. Before the update it went out and in every time you drop below 20. Now that does no happen. Not perfect but no problem unless you like wheelies

Unless Im misunderstanding thats how it always worked....it only popped out below 20 if it had failed to calibrate the first time.....something that its surely going to do if you can drive slowly and straight enough even after the software mod. It cant leave the camera uncalibrated.....maybe I'm just misunderstanding........but, based solely on you description, it seems like nothing changed.

We really don’t know much about this software update at this stage but I wonder if the OP had a genuine fault on his car and the ‘update’ corrects that fault and brings his car up to the level that we all currently have.
And yes MB expect us to drive in a straight line at less than 30kph for 1 minute.
Of course I hope I am wrong.

Before the update it was possible to calibrate the camera by driving straight line etc for 5 to 10 mins. Now it calibrates almost as soon as I leave my parking space and then stays quiet. This is a big change and makes the car liveable. Wether or not mb ever stop it altogether is a different issue but there are stupid eu and us laws that might make that impossible. Anyway it works for me. If you want to be pedantic it is the same as before but so quick it is not intrusive and you do not have to find a long straight stretch of road.

The dealer showed me the actual service bulletin which was issued directly because of the camera issue. The update only speeds up calibration to an acceptable level ( to me anyway)

Any luck “calibrating” it at night after the update?

I couldn’t - it’s impossible with low light. 😣

I’m really surprised when you say 5 to 10 minutes. 1 minute has always been the criteria. Perhaps you had a genuine fault. Good luck.

Has anybody else had this software update?

My car only ever takes about one minute to complete the calibration which is still unacceptable. Why on earth the camera has to pop out at all when you engage drive is beyond me, very strange how other makes don't have this performance.
As I have said before, I have been a Mercedes enthusiast for many years and have spent a shed load of money on them, but this lark has really put me off.
Lexus here I come !!

And I agree. Japan for me too.

This is all rediculous... tools and machines typically need calibration in time intervals into the months or years, even precision instruments. I mean, what ever has to happen overnight on my parking space for the camera to have to re-calibrate in the (each) morning. I understand the camera is high tech, but hardly moon landing technology....

I think what happened happened in the States when MB were heavily fined for the camera not working. Until MB build up confidence for something they designed I think we are stuck with every time calibration.
