Just had my E class coupe serviced about 6 weeks ago. 'A' service was performed by MB dealership.

Warning message on instrument cluster today, check oil level when next refuelling. Should this be correct, I thought the 'A' service would have topped up the oil? I have only done a few hundred miles since the 'A' service.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Doesn't sound usual to me?

BTW - may I ask, when you had your A service did you get any details about the state of your brakes (pad wear) etc? I just ask because I didn't and wondered (afterwards) if I should have...

I think they provided me with a printout of what was checked.

I should also say that an A service is a full oil change - not just a top up so indeed I would contact them and get them to sort it.

Did you check the oil when collecting your car after the service?(always a good idea as it's not unknown for garages to forget to refil or do an oil change).

Apparently, some dealers will only refill the oil to the minimum as there have been troubles in the past with the 'OIL LEVEL TOO HIGH' warning coming on. I'd take it back and get them to top it up

Thanks for all your replies.

As I suspected oil top-up should have been included. The only issue is that the dealership is a 150mile round trip. Will my local dealership top up the oil at no cost?

I think this is unofficially what most mb dealers now do,i had "oil level too high" come up when i bought my cls in october last year because the oil had been filled to max when cold so when the engine was running at normal temp it triggered the sensors.

My first A is due in March and I will be getting it done at MB Sheffield.

What exactly is done on the A? Is it just an oil change and check of the wear/tear parts?

Also, how far in advance of the due date can you get it done? And can you slip by any amount and have it done later? I know on my last car (Renault) you could have the sevice done 1k miles either side of the designated limit.
