A 140
Hello to all,

My name is Gaz and I have joined your forum as I have a problem with our car. It is a 2002 petrol LWB A-140.

The problem is this morning I have gone to start the car, but when the ignition is turned on the only icon to light up on the dash is "SRS" in red. No other battery, oil, hand brake light is displayed. Also the car will not start at all, it will not even try to turn, nothing!!! there is plenty of life in the battery, all lights wipers etc work 100% but nothing doing... its as if the ignition is disabled somehow??? Can I just point out the car has not been in a bump or a crash in the last 5 years that we have owned it, as I have done a search and it seems SRS is air bags and seat belt tensioners.

But... there is more to this I think. On Friday "3 days ago" my wife was out in the car shopping when she went to reverse out of a parking bay. The car started, but as soon as she started to reverse the car kept cutting out. she did this approx 6 or 7 times giving enough momentum to get out the parking bay. When she drove forward she said the car drove as normal but the "yellow engine light" was on permanent until she got home. A trip of about 1.5 miles. The car was parked up on Friday morning and not touched until I got in this morning and the problem listed above occurred.

Sorry for the long post, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Gaz...

Thanks Grober & Koolvin,

I have just been reading through the links you have supplied and the one Koolvin posted looks exactly the same problem as I have... I also noticed in the first link that a heavy bunch of keys might play a part in wearing down the ignition also???

I will investigate further, and thanks again.

heavy keys will not contribute to your issue - I have studied the mechanism. Please report back once the issue is resolved. If it is your starter motor and not the switch then expect your engine to be lowered to replace the starter £££'s

I actually have had both items replaced. I replaced the ignition switch myself and documented it for loftys site. My starter motor failed a few months later (sods law) and Olly from PCS replaced it for me.

I have sent you a PM re a spare ignition switch.
