A new 1M / M2 would destroy the A45.

The A45 is going to find it hard enough to beat the M135i for everything except looks.

I hope the A45 is a good car, but the following things don't stack up for me:

2.0 engine
Haldex 4WD
List price
No LSD (in 1M not M135i)

The N55 BMW engine is sensational.

That said I will give it a go when it arrives, but think its direct competition will be the S3 Sportback and obviously the M135i.

The RS3 and new M2 will be a league above.

Are these specs 100% confirmed by Mercedes or are they purely rumours?
I agree the 2l engine maybe a little underpowered; however, I don't see how the 4wd system could be a problem?

The A45 has already been superseded by the A14 so I think it doesn't have a chance against the M1.

The engine is reported to have 300+bhp so may not be underpowered against the S3 and M135i

Try driving a Haldex car, I owned an S3 with Haldex and it was uninvolving. My preference is RWD or a proper 4WD with permanent 40/60 split (like an RS4).

We'll see though and I honestly hope that its excellent as the M135i is a minger and the new S3 likely to be dull to drive as always.

But I think the new M2 when it arrives in a couple of years will be sensational based on everything they will have learnt from the 1M.
