I just went ahead with the AA Warranty on the wifes 2004 Audi A4 -

£27 per month, for 2 years (although you can cancel at anytime with 30 days notice)

Includes full AA breakdown cover as well.

Audi price was £700 per year, so this is a damn site cheaper for what appears to be equivalent cover levels.

Is that the AA full gold star warranty or just a partial one?

Decision

OK - I suppose I ought to put my money where my mouth is, have decided to do with out.

This is mainly because it is impossible to compare like for like products.

Did I make a good choice, or will I have egg on my face - only time will tell?

That was their "Privilege" level, which is the same as the "5 star" on the website, and I then added full breakdown cover including homestart and full recovery to that to reach the total.

WE have bought the extended warranty from the AA also, on the advice of our local friendly car salesman who told us it was all singing all dancing!! We have had nothing but stress and problems with them. They put everything down to wear and tear. our wheel bearing has gone which it says in black and white in the book, wheels bearings front and rear are covered. however, it has to be a total mechanical failure of the wheel bearing for this to apply. the old 'wear and tear' cliche! they basically will cover it once your car totally breaks down and nobody in the right mind is going to let this happen!
and as for their recommended garages, thats a joke too! As a matter of interest did you get your money back from them and any advice on how we could go about doing the same. thanks.

Mixed views re the AA warranty - seen a few others around that were also not so flattering:

Picked this up from another place - could be a one off:

DO NOT BUY THE AA COVER!!!! I purchased the "prestige" cover after my 3 yr warranty ran out on my new car. I had a call from a sales woman who said the dealer had passed on my details. I was told (or Sold) that as my car was low milage, serviced regularly by the main dealer (as per waranty) and that I only travelled 6000 miles a year, I was eligable for their all singing all dancing policy. 3 months later, taking my car to the main dealer for it's yearly service, they tell me that there is a problem with the steering rack, but unfortunately it can't be done under warranty as it was just over the 3 years. NO WORRIES I thought, glad I took out the AA policy... WRONG!!! I called the AA claims line who then asked me to contact the dealer to get them to call the AA. I received a call from the dealer 10 minutes later to be told that the AA would not cover it as it was classed as "wear and tear!" If the bart had broken in transit, it would have been covered! I called the AA back and was put through to an obnoxious man called Jaimy Glisson. Totally negative and obstructive. He refused to do anything at all. When I told him that the dealer has said it is not wear and tear, he just said that in his opinion it was.... now these claims guys are qualified mechanics too? I have now had to issue a county court claim against them for all the costs and refund of my policy. This is quite easy to do at www.moneyclaim.gov.uk and I advise anyone who has a problem with the AA to do so too. For all those thinking of taking an AA warranty out DON'T!!! They will fit any legitimate claim into the " not covered" umberella!!!

I am thinking of getting the AA Gold Warranty, any one know if this is worthwhile now or useless? I am getting it as part of a purchase from a UK Bentley dealer who seems to put this on all non Bentley cars they sell...

Go for Warranty Direct. They cover wear and tear after 90 days - or immediately if your car is coming out of a manufacturers warranty.

I have had no problems whatsoever with their claims dept and actually find them helpful. :thumb:

Warranty direct have a good reputation - as do Warrantywise - the one Quentin Wilson advertises. Our family's experiences with the AA have been dreadful. Personally would not go anywhere near them.

No warranty company will get all good reviews... They cover what they cover and if something breaks that isnt covered, the customer will be annoyed.
Just read the details and go with the one that has the least exclusions.

Don't bother ... AA 5 star warranty, not worth the paper it's written on..... my car had a problem about 6-8 months ago, the mobilo-life guy came out spent a while trying to find out why it was dead, and not turning over in the end he had it taken to the dealership for me, for them to find the fault.... turned out the Swindon dealership found a loose wire way down on the starter solenoid, so no parts needed for the fix, therefore AA crappy warranty refused to pay for anything, had the dealership said "oh you need a new solenoid" (even if it didn't) all costs would have ben covered!... at least they weren't stupid enough to call me and ask if i wanted to extend it when it ran out !
