Guys

I'm about to buy a C63
Currently have a CLK55, am I mad?
Can't see it costing much more to run than the 55.

For example - on 4th set of tyres with the 55 after 15K, so surely to god the 63 can't be any worse!

Thoughts please.
Cheers

No your not mad...But i think you could be wrong with at least another 70hp i dont think rear traction is going to improve?:thumb:

Tony.

First world problems lol

Defo a good choice. Was using a clk55 before the c63 and the 63 is a step up in every sense. Interior quality Is much better, engine sounds much better and a fair bit more power. You'll love it

Can't wait. Like a wee kid on Christmas eve!

Just wondering, its got 19" wheels, so will it be difficult to live with on our roads?
Have driven STI Subaru's prior to the 55, and they had rock hard suspension, so I assume this bad boy will be ok.

Car will be bought in the following week

Do the 63's have many issues?
I know you can't pay attention to all you read on the big bad internet, but do these cars use a lot of oil between service intervals?

Clk/c63

Recently changed from a CLK55 Cabrio to C63 and run both for a couple of months .

The CLK was better build quality and finish , more refined and had superior comfort . It 'wafted' along ,where the C63 is more of a bruiser. The C63 appears to have been built to a price rather than a standard . After all , it is based on the C class which is more of a base car than an E or S class . The CLK was based on the E class chassis .

Comfort wise , slightly less than the CLK but nothing too harsh or brutal.the C63 is more focused and just gets on with it .

As to oil consumption , I believe it depends on the individual car and your driving style .I keep an eye on the level and having driving several hundred gentle miles have noticed no perceivable drop so far .

The Achilles heel of AMGs are the electrics. I did have several nigglie issues with the CLK but that was a 12 year old car . The C63 is 3 years old so let's wait and see .

Either way , it's a fantastic car and totally enjoyable to drive . Test drive one and I believe you will be smitten - just starting it upmwill bring a smile,to your face !

Please keep us updated with your progress .

Mine doesn't use any oil at all. I have read about cars using oil though, so it must happen.

Mine's on 19" wheels too, IMO they look better than the 18"s.

Buy one, drive it and enjoy it, I Guarantee you will.

Thanks for all the comments folks.
The noise on startup definitely puts a big childish grin on the face.
Can't wait now:D

Have already said to my immediate neighbour, and showed him this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIOwUDbV3Qw

When's it booked in for a remap/secondary cat gutting/Quaife fitting etc?

You just know it won't be long.

I managed to wait 7 months before I did all that, next is BMC filters, Fi flapped exhaust and sports cat fit on Wednesday and a dyno run, can hardly wait.

Absolutely go for it (*), you will not regret it one iota (**).

I also ride on 19"s and I find the ride perfectly fine, although I've never test-driven 18"s for comparison. I used to run a Z4M w/ 18"s for about 5 years and the suspension on it was rather more bone-shattering compared to the C63 (performance suspension w/ 19"s), which I actually find pliable and... awesome in everyway (***).

As Nike says: JUST DO IT. ;)

Footnotes:
* As said by a fellow recent purchaser of a C63, who may or may be justifying his own purchase, haha.
** Yup, I'm still biased, lol - I imagine there aren't many here, within the performance forum especially, that will say "don't be silly".
*** There he goes again! He just can't be negative about the car, can he?

Cheers big fella, appreciate the comment from a local lad.
@Paul Does the LSD make a lot of difference on the car?

Great to see another member from NI!

The LSD question is a marmite question, in which you'll probably get a divided answer between "it is absolutely necessary" and "don't need it, won't notice it, never gonna matter unless you're tracking it". Personally I'm in the former camp as any previous RWD car I've had in the past has generally had an LSD, and I'm pretty sure I'd missed it for those moments when going sideways up a slip-road to the motorway (I jest, but still ... Having the LSD can't hurt, can it?)

In saying that, finding one WITH the LSD is a real *beep* *beep* *beep* and *beep* and it took me a lifetime to find one with the right specification. Therefore, if you can find a decent one at a decent deal without the LSD, you could always grab it and then get a Quaife LSD installed at a later date if you're missing one. If you're concerned then try test driving with and without!

Good luck Shaun!

P.S. You've already showed your neighbour the video of another C63 revving (actually interesting to me because I'm comparing exhausts atm), but I just posted my own one in the AMG forum which might be of interest to you as well:

Hmm, the Quaife question. Most of the time, on the road, you won't notice it, it even makes the pull away a little more jerky. It's only on wet or slippery roads, when you open the throttle that little bit too much, when it breaks traction it does it in a more controlled manner, not lifting one wheel and throwing you sideways.

Some say, they hardly have the traction light flash at all with a Quaife fitted, but I can honestly say, it still does flash with annoying regularity, that's after the remap too though, a standard car may be different. I haven't had mine on a dyno yet but Eurocharged claim that it should be around 520-530 BHP post remap, serious power for 2, quite narrow, rear tyres to cope with.

Would I fit one again in a newer car? Hell yes, for the times it's saved me under heavy acceleration.

Quaife, remap and secondary cat gutting, they are the first three mods, get them all done, at the same time, and you'll never be out of your car, or you'll make any excuse to go out in it. Enjoy.

I read recently someone who give his C63 a load of throttle at 80mph, and he said it flicked him sideways - I presume he must have had traction control turned off to do such a thing?

C63K - do you use Creevy's to maintain your car?
PS the link in your exhaust post doesn't work

So folks, anything in particular I should be aware of on the 63's?
Probably purchasing today if everything adds up on the car's record, have already been to view it previously
